Roofing

Hello

I looked for another solution to my roof problem, I found a Revit roof modeling file I would like to add it (attachment file). So basically I have 2 questions:

  1. How to replace the generic existing with this model type? I opened it in my file and tried the Match Type Properties. I also saved the file as Family file. I didn't know how to put it in my file.
  2. How to model it in my file if I don't have a previous roof?

Note: If I have to send these 2 questions in separated  conversation, please let know, for later conversation.

Regards

The problem solved by checking the 3D Sapping checkbox. Now I have a new warning when I click the last point of reference line.

Cancel and start over. The only points should be overlapping is the first and the last ones.

I already started over and I was sure to select the required point also the first and last points are overlapped. I still get this error when I click the last point

It's strange. I can do it with or without turning on 3D snapping. If I turn on 3d snapping I don't need to set the workplane, just draw directly and the mass points will snap to the roof points.

What if you accept the warning and click okay?

Maybe because we live in a different longitude and different time zone Man Happy

I tried all below options with both Reference Line and Model Line on 2 different faces and always with the same error message

You know, I'm just wandering by again, so excuse me if I'm way off base here, but it seems to me that you could accomplish the same thing, with much less head-aches, by applying a pattern-based panel to a Divided [Mass] Surface.

@zs-17 :  can you post the family you are trying to place?  Just curious about what's going on.

The below type of roof tile is the common in my area. any way to apply it on a roof in a condition the horizontal lines will be aligned is acceptable to me; if so, you need need to send me relative steps. By the way, can I save sent screencast in my computer?

The instruction is just that - create a dived surface and apply the pattern based family.

It's the same procedure, my problem is that I can't draw a close loop reference line (step 4)

Maybe you could draw a point at each corner, and select each pair and create a through-point line. It accomplishes the same thing.

Yes, I get it, @ToanDN.    I suspect you'll "get it" too when you open @zs-17's RVT.  You guys are on two totally different pages.

I know there are some pieces placed manually in the rvt. That is the reason for going thru the steps to create the divided surface for automatic placement.

Does't help if I generate a new generic roof or create the roof in a different way?

The roof is fine IMHO.  DO you know how to record a screencast?  If so, can you do one so I can see the workflow you creating the mass leads to that error?
