Rhino vs Revit

Hi,

I heard about the Rhino software just few days back.

What is the difference between Rhino and Revit ?

And... what we should focus on, as architects ? Should we use Rhino in office instead of Revit ?

Rhinoceros up until very recently was model centric, version 6 touts some or more documentation features. Rhino's fans like the comprehensive tools for creating shapes. Have a look at their gallery, many examples of product design and the buildings represented for the most part have complicated exteriors. There are plenty of architecture firms (and students) that use Rhino as part of their design process (which usually means exterior shapes or interior feature elements with unusual shapes) and then do the documentation with Revit. Someone with ample Revit experience won't be inclined to use it as much as someone without it.

You'll have to evaluate it for yourself and your firm.

You could also ask what the similarities are, because they are designed with a totally different vision. They are both good/excellent tools for what their intend is.

Rhino:

-Heavily focusses on creating very complex shapes, also used in product design and shipbuilding

-NURBS modeller: much more tools for manipulating and creating surfaces like 2 rail sweeps, chamfers, etc.

-Analysis of curves and surfaces (fluidity)

-Possibility to model meshes

-Creating files to 3Dprint, or to CNC-mill

-Grasshopper as their parametric engine; loads of free add-ins both for Rhino and grasshopper.

Revit:

-Focusses on communication and sharing information

-Possibility to work in shared documents

-Easier to create construction documents

-Dynamo is copied from grasshopper as their parametric engine.

Lot of firms use both of them, Rhino has a lot of design flexibility and it is easy to create complex shapes, Revit is used for communication, printing documents and to add information to elements. Interoperability is a big thing, learn both.
