Revit: Using hidden lines for optional walls

Hi fellas!

How do you achieve a look for optional walls as quick and easy as possible?
(similar to what you get when using demolish, but that's not a valid option)

Hi @Marcus.Isacsson,

I understand you wish to define a graphic distinction for optional walls in your floor plan view.

The simplest way would be probably to

  1. Right click on the wall
  2. Go to Override Graphics in View > By Element
  3. ...and override the Cut Lines Pattern with Hidden Lines

Design Options in Revit however can give you a more elegant way to deal with different options in the designing phase.

This forum thread might also be useful, in case you are working with Design Options and want to adjust view graphics:

Design Option Filters

I hope this helps. Don´t forget to mark this as an "Accepted Solution" if it does.

Hi! It's not an option in that way. It's an option for customers to choose between, to add/remove certain walls depending on their family situation.

Override graphics in view is one way. But It would be better to have a certain wall that's "optional", and then a filter should be able to do the same?

There is nearly a infinite amount of ways, just to name a few:

-Set all these walls on a different phasing with a phase filter override

-Type a comment in these walls like 'option', and make a viewfilter based on this text

Hi @Marcus.Isacsson,

I agree with @Avaris.  - There are multiple ways to achieve this.

I personaly would probably go with setting up a wall type for this purpose and creating a view filter for the walls of this type.

Once it is done, you can include the view filter in view templates as well so that you can apply the setting on multiple views easily.

Create a wall type, or a workset, then use rule based filter. Or demolish them in the same phase they were created on, then turn make use of phase graphic override for temporary elements.

Hi

Select the required walls, Save selection, Use that selection in filter for graphics override..

so everytime you add/remove elements from the Selection, the graphics override / Filter

will apply...

Hi All,

Awesome spirit here - very good suggestions!

@Marcus.Isacsson,

Let us know, if that helped or if you happen to have questions to any of these.

Don´t forget to use the "Accept Solution" button - It is OK to use it more than one time in this thread as well...
