Revit Tutorial Error: Create Terrain and Building Pad

I am getting an error message when working with Toposolid per the instructions in the video.  I am following the instructions exactly, yet when I try to add an elevation of -500 to the right boundary I am getting an error message.  I am clearly doing something wrong or am just lacking the depth of knowledge to trouble shoot. The error message is: "Slab Shape Edit failed. The Floor or Roof or Toposolid is too thin for its given type." I am very new to Revit, but am well versed in CAD.  Any help is appreciated.

You said "...per the instructions in the video". What video?

Sounds like the problem is with the settings of layers of materials in the toposolid.

Please follow this link to another video about toposolid in 2024: https://youtu.be/vNNszAef3mE?si=IjCR2uE5IEfD5Wgy

The Title of the tutorial video is the title of my post. It is a tutorial from the autodesk website in the tutorials sections.  Here's a link if you can't find it: https://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2023/ENU/?guid=GUID-BD22FE68-5DDC-4E17-8528-AE0BC868A372   I know nothing about Toposolid and am just trying to complete the tutorial instructions.  I have used Revit for 1.5 days. Trying to avoid intense trouble shooting as best I can at this point.

at 1:18, the instructor changes the type of toposolid to one called "Building Terrain" before finishing. As per your screen capture, you did not do that.

By the way, you wrote: "The Title of the tutorial video is the title of my post". How could we know that and how could we know where to find it?

Yes, I did think that might be the issue, but the type I have selected is the only one available.  So I am not sure what to do to fix that. Either the issue is with the file provided by autodesk or I am not selecting the type correctly. I have watched the video many times & the options available in the video do not appear to be available in the file provided:\

I am assuming the title of my post is seen as is the case with all other forums I have used.  Is that not the case?

Well, it is good to be more specific. By just reading the title of the post we cannot infer that it is a video by Autodesk in a certain Autodesk web page. It's easier if you provide the link in the first post, is it not?

But anyway, let's not worry about that. I will reply later with more information about how you can create that other toposolid type that the instructor is using, so that you can finish the exercise.

@liz.nahm1 . Start a new project with Revit 2024, using the default template. Do this: File > New > Project > Imperial Multi-Discipline > OK. Then, go to Massing & Site > Toposolid > (from the type selector shown below, select the type indicated here", then follow the video tutorial again.

What is your Project Units?  The video indicates 500 mm so if your units is not millimeters then it is the problem.

That's a good idea.  I will try that. Also there is no depth/thickness value aka zero inputted in the toposolid type available. Maybe I can try adding  .  I think if the correct toposolid building material was inputted it would not be an issue, but as I mentioned in previous comments I have no idea what I am doing yet, LOL.

Thank you!! That sounds like a straight forward trouble shooting adventure.  I will try that & see how I fare.

When following your prompts with a new Project, Toposolid 1 is style the only type available as with the other file:\ Is there a way can I get other types to import or show up?

Not if you use the template that I mentioned, which is the default template in 2024. You don't have it? That template contains those types shown in the screen capture above.

I tried opening the next file in the series GSG_04_add_floor  & still only the type Toposolid 1 is available.

The default file you have mentioned is not available.  The only options under 'template file' are '<none>.'  I think I may have a larger issue at hand.  I purchased a computer specifically for Revit due to no Mac versions being available. It appears that maybe Revit was saved to my Microsoft Onedrive rather than on the laptop.  Onedrive is not adequate storage for Revit, but the laptop is.  I am trying to solve this, I wonder if that may be causing issues.

I have scheduled a call with support regarding this issue.  They sent me a email for  'trouble shooting' with suggestions that did not answer my questions.  Does anyone know how to escalate a support case? They are now not responding & have apparently cancelled our call as no one has called me at the scheduled time.

Problem solved!!  Tech support helped my figure it out.  The tutorial files I was using(from Autodesk) were 2023 files somehow.  Not sure if I stumbled on an old link or if the files were updated in the last 2 weeks, but I have the correct files now.  See link if you have similar issues: https://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2024/ENU/?guid=GUID-C3DEF8F6-A9C0-496E-A554-8147B12A4EDA.  Thank you to those of you who offered your thoughts on this to try to help:)

Try the attached file. It should have the correct toposolid type you need to add the site.

I am a bit confused though as to why the file you are working with does not have the correct type. I pulled this file from the source used to create the downloadable tutorial files. All of that said, the tutorials are designed that you can just move on to the next one and use the next data set in sequence if something did not quite work.

Yes, as stated the files I got from the Autodesk tutorials were wrong.  The 2023 files did not work for the tutorial videos. I was not aware there were 2024 files or links somehow. Yes the 2024 link I provided is the accurate files. Again not sure how I ended up with the 2023 versions.  The tutorials are really hard to find in general.
