Revit Plotting - Black Lines for New, Grayscale for Existing

Hi All,

I'm working on a project that contains both existing and new construction elements, along with a few linked models, and some revit drafting views. We have a template set up that has many line styles and object styles that are set as colors, but when printed in "black line" mode, they of course, show up as black lines. We would now like the same, but with the new elements printing as black lines, and the exisiting printing as grayscale. When using "black line" print settings on this new project, everything is black, including the existing elements - as to be expected. However when printing in grayscale, all the colored lines and object styles show up as colors, not gray. And too, if they are new construction or annotations, we would like them to be actually black, even if they did print as "grey". We have already gone through and changed to object styles and line styles to all black, but this makes working on the model quite difficult and re-setting all of those colors back is a nightmare.

Is there an easier solution? Has anyone had a similar request? It seems very simple, but incredibly convoluted to actually put in place. Any help appreciated! We are using Revit 2015 and have already tried to change it using the PDF printer settings - which are few and far between.

So far I've scoured the message boards and haven't found a great answer - if there is one out there and I missed it, feel free to point me in the right direction.

You can keep the object styles colored as you had before. Use Phase filter graphic override to override the new elements to black, and the existing elements to grey or halftone. Print in grey scale.

Does this also work with detail lines and object styles though? And is it done through th V/G diologue? I already have the phases set up, yet things are still printing with colors even if they are in the "new" phase filter.

When printing using black lines, everything you set as "halftone" will print as gray.

I was having issues with my Phases and stumbled upon this Forum and it helped me, but one of my issues was printing in Black Line. i have fixed everything from my Phase filters to the phase materials being used. the only thing that was preventing me from plotting correct plots was whether to plot in Grey Scale or Black lines. I'm not sure if you have other ideas of why plotting in black lines was still an issue after correcting everything else.

What was the issue?  I can print half-toned Existing elements with either Black Lines or Grayscale option without any issue.
