I wonder if  there is any truth to the rumor that there will be no Revit versions beyond 2015 or 2016? if that is the case, is this a sign that they will be moving to Revit licensing issued by SaaS?

Then the discussion about os exclusive software becomes a moot point, then perhaps shifts to whether your browser will support Revit.

Not sure where you got the idea that Revit is being discontinued beyond the 2015 or 2016 releases...  I did a quick search, and your mention of it is literally the only "rumor" I've found in that vein.

Perhaps you're thinking of some of the software suites (i.e. AutoCAD Revit Architecture Suite) that are being discontinued...?

I cant recall where I heard it, but the language did not imply discontinuation.

Does the lack of future versions inherently mean that there is no longer development within a program? Kind of a different paradigm to consider any alternate to that, but maybe someone more versed in SaaS or cloud based programs could weigh in on the concept.

There will be future versions of Revit.  Not sure where you're getting the idea that there won't be...

based on your assurances, would you be able to give any insight on Revit shifting to a cloud based service rather than proceeding on user installed software?

Wondering if that were to come to pass, would it not matter what kind of operating system was being used?

I'm not an Autodesk employee, so I can't speak to their official plans.  If I had to hazard a guess, however, I could see a cloud-based version of Revit (available via a dedicated web interface) sometime in the next 2-5 years, but it'll be a while before it becomes the standard, rather than an option.  A PC-based version (whether it's a Windows machine or an OSX machine) is still going to be the standard-bearer for a few more years.

I am using an Imac27 full options(2013 model), graphic card 2GB, 32GB RAM etc etc...

I Installed Prallels desktop 8 for mac. Windows Ultimum installed on the Parallel. Revit 2013 works almost perfect...the only thing is the renderings...if your rendering with artificial lights(like in a house design) then it takes ages for the render to finish..up to 22hours!!!...my laptop with only 8gb is even quicker...(and i am not even rendering at "Best" quality. Even if you select the Raytrace mode its so slow. really annoying. 

When you'r rendering Revit uses "only" 5GB RAM memory why? 

Wish that could be improved...

Yes, Browser based Revit is now available.  Run it on ANY hardware that supports HTML5. PC, Mac, iOS, Linux...

Saw the post in the other revit/mac thread and started the AWS service, gave a CC# and paused where it estimated my usage to run about $544 mo.. Have not proceeded. Otoy site is pretty heavy with developer speak. I need to dedicate a bit more time to launching this properly.

Realize that although it takes a CC now, its free to try through December 31, 2013.  It is a bit heavy in developer speak, you have to follw the instructions carefully and get an IP address as well as some other info to "build" a custom URL to use.  I haven't even gotten that part figured out yet.

I dont see how this is true at all, and what exactly do those % depict?  You failed to define that clearly, is it architects and computers?  autodesk and computer types?  I run windows on my mac through bootcamp so that I can run autodesk products.  Where am I located in these statistics, am I part of the windows %, i just don't think it's that cut and dry?  If I, an architect that prefers to use a mac, took a survey of my friends that are architects, the majority would have macs.  The others would run a mac no problem but they do not, for one reason, autodesk doesnt provide compatible software!!!!!!  Bottom line, there needs to be a mac verision of all autodesk products period.  This is 2014.

I think all serious BIM users on mac should look at Archicad. I've been using since 2000 when Autodesk hadn't even thought of BIM. It has very adaptable dwg translators so you can communicate with other disciplines and you are using a product that has been in real time development for 15 years. If Autodesk refuse to understand the importance of mac in the design industry, then the deserve to drop behind. Incidentally, I have a small practice and every other design professional I know who use pc would swap to mac if the software was available!

Hey I am having the same probelm trying to run revit on a macbook pro retina using paralles and win7.

Hi Niall,
Well I have revit working on my pro with windows 7 and the parralel
software. Runs ok but sometimes revit just crashes. Also rendering with
2013revit is slow. 2014 is faster and librarys are better. I hoped revit
would use more of my 32gb internal mem but nope..
Hope they find a better sollution for that. But no complains from my side
just some little remarks. Hope they will make a mac revit soon.

What ram and cpu did you give to the win7??

Had tried to install 2015 version but said operating system not compatible and 2014 froze but will try 2014 again

Nial,

If you want to use parrale, you will experience this kind of behavior. I just don't understand why the people will not just let Windows use all of the resources from their computer by allowing ONLY Windows to take complete control of it. When you use Parrale, the Mac has to drive two operating systems, Parrale and Revits simultaneously. If you make a living with Revits, we don't need these unnecessary problems. 

Boot camp is for free. Boot-up into Windows and let Windows use your resources efficiently. Revits is huge and the rendering uses a lot of resources. If you want to use OSX, boot-up the Mac while holding the option key.

I have Mac Pros and several Macbook Pros with no problems at all. Business is business! We cannot play around with two LIVE operating hogging all of the resources generating erratic behaviors.

Please remember that this is just my option and only my option because I have only been using CAD machines since 1989: Look up IBM PS-2 Model 60.

If for whatever reason you don't want to use Boot Camp, good luck and I hope the very best solution for you will be obtained.

Hey we have managed to get it running but very slow on parallels..

So we are going to try boot camp here as you have said seems to be the better option..

Can't understand the delay from autodesk with revit on Mac when there is the demand
