Revit <> IFC Interoperability ( Door Swings and Toom Tags)

Hello everyone. Revit 2022.1 user here seeking hopeful help with Revit and IFC Interoperability. We are getting IFC's from our associate architect and linking in via the IFC Plugin for Revit. We still are not able to see 2d door swings in plan (doors are in the model in 3d space) as well as the improved IFC open of spaces as rooms with tags (all showing) and then when we push that to a Revit file and try to link that file, rooms come up but no tags are showing.

Has anyone dug into this or found any solutions?

Thanks.

The issue is that IFC is based on exporting 3D geometry with relevant BIM data attached to the geometry. So by default no (or very limited) amount of 2D data is exported. So you will not find tags in the IFC. The only solution is to export the right data with the 3D elements so that you can find the data that you would see in the tags (tags read the data from the 3D elements).

In Revit you have a setting that allows you to export (some) 2D elements.

With this you could see things like doorswings in plan views when loading the IFC back  into Revit. But you can assume that if you would load the same IFC in other software (e.g Archicad) that there is a good chance that you will not see those doorswings. Most IFC viewrs will not deal with 2D elements in the IFC file.

You have to be aware that the purpose of IFC is to exchange 3d geometry. For things like textual information you would use other methods like printouts of the sheets from Revit or exported DWGs.

Thanks for that info. To confirm, we are linking IFC FROM ArchiCAD and trying to see the door swings in our Revit Plans. I will say we ran a test prior and door swings did show up but they were perfectly in line with our Revit floor slab so they were overlapping. The first solution was to over ride transparency of the slab but as you can imagine that is complicated and a preferred method. Any other solutions?

No, as IFC was not intended to transport 2D elements handling of it (exporting or importing) will remain not straight forward and inconsistent.

If you are going to follow this workflow more often, than the way to go is to create view templates for this in your project template.
