Revit LT 2024 Building Pads

While the new toposolid feature looks like an improvement and would be to be able to cut voids using in-place mass in the full Revit, anyone have any suggestions on how to do a building pad in Revit LT which doesn't have an in-place mass tool? Autodesk is suggesting making building pads using in-place mass voids but that's impossible in Revit LT.

Sorry, that is a horrible work around.

I don't think Autodesk fully understands the issues they have put small business in with this removal of building pads. I am using LT2023 and will not be able to upgrade until it is fixed. clearly there is a time limit on that as well as I can use 2023 indefinitely. I have looked at all the work arounds and temporary ideas but they simply do NOT work. Pads or equivalent needs to be replaced . I am paying for this service / product, why am I not getting service?

this has been shown as a solution - its not a solution as it does not consider normal practice for modeling and variations and remodeling. Doing a family is a lengthy process and would need to be done differently for each job. I have even considered making a fully parametric PAD family that can be inserted into each job but as each pad is unique to the site there are too many variables and so the family would need to be changed each time and that is time consuming and far slower that what we had with PADS.

In each job client preference changes, site assessment and ongoing variations makes family changes very time consuming and not viable.

if someone can come up with a fully parametric pad family that can be redrawn each job easily on the fly that would be good and I would be happy to try it. BUT wait hang on we had one, they were called building PADs??

this is not a solution for my small business, replacing building PADs is!

I've been trying to import a pad from an older project and that isn't working. If you figure out how let me know.

Harlan, if these are actually doable would you please do us the honor of showing us how.

Yes please, with video instructions point by point for Revit LT. Preferrable a talking point by point instruction.

and how to easily convert existing pads the same as otherwise I have 20 jobs already set up with PADS that would need to be converted and I do not have time to mess around with this or my business will be affected significantly.

Give us "Pads" back, or allow the full site modeling experience in LT that you can get in the full version. I have projects where I am building up the sites now and am running into serious issues not being able to model the site as per what one would expect your software to be able to do.

What's next, we can't place walls in models or something as ridiculous as that!

Of course this is a genius idea.

surely one step to making this easier is opening up Revit LT to the full functions for site modeling and massing.

That might begin to make up for the inconvenience so far

So it looks like Building PADs are back in 2025 and also potentially some improvements in the toppo solid.

One improvement is that you just select excavate on a floor which will cut into the topo solid. Is this feature in Revit LT? I am hoping so

And thank goodness we saw this change from our picketing, but please AUTO Desk don't just take things away in the future. Come up with new inventive tools but leave the old ones so we can transition out of them. This essentially cost me 2024 Revit as I did not update in fear of major work interruptions

I completely agree. The idea of having no option in Revit LT for a building pad is ridiculous. What is the point in the program if you can only work on flat terrain? It makes it seem like the people developing these are not in touch with people that work in the industry. How do these decisions get approved? Autodesk - please bring it back or provide a solution or perhaps automatically update everyone's software to full Revit. I have to use other software programs to do the topography - not why I pay for Revit.

Can you show a bit more of what you are trying to do?
perhaps posting the model? (You can strip out any identifying data or move the bits that are causing an issue into a new document)

I have finally taken the dive into 2025 LT and my pads are editable.

However, it wants you to convert your topo surface to a topo solid and that immediately makes the pad worthless as it does not work with topo solid.

If you convert an existing file up to 2025 this seems ok initially, as the file is not really changed, however if I am working through an existing project you cannot change the topo surface levels anymore.

This means you can amend the pads on an existing project and that will articulate with the topo surface but you cant change the surface.

So if you have a Topo Surface with changes needed and want to keep one or multiple PADs you cannot - you convert to Solid and then Pads are done.

as we have no massing tools we are now stumped and the software fails

I thought the promise was PADs are back in 2025, that seems not to be true?

Harlan I have to say that this ongoing issue is not an accepted solution;

you are forgetting that we are running businesses and transitioning from existing jobs is made very difficult when basic tools are removed

now I have  started with LT 2025 I can see the incredible trouble that this has created. updating existing work efficiently is no longer possible and going through an existing job and making all these changes was never anticipated and quoted for in time for my clients. I have lost so much time working around these issues as a direct loss to my business.

Why is Revit making this so hard? I cannot use my existing topo surfaces and modify them and once I convert to topo solid pads do not work unless I leave the surface in place.

how can I modify my existing surfaces and work with existing pads and transition? put simply this was done poorly and has an impact on my work.

Building Pad needs to convert to a cutting element in a topo solid, simple as that; also LT needs massing for topo solids or we are being placed under hardship

I do not understand the resistance to this and I am surprised at the lack of understanding that many of your users are small businesses and affected terribly by this.
