Revit LT 2017- text editing issues

Hi,

I'm having some issues when editing text - particulary on the sheet (not so much in legends or draft views).

The cursor is in a completely different position to where the text is entered. If I press the left arrow key the cursor moves right!

Very annoying 😕

The attached screen grab shows the cursor just before the word '|FENCE'  and the text is entering after the word 'LOW'  'ddd' is my new text.

Any hotfixes?

It's quirk or bug with the new text editor. We're waiting for a patch. In the meantime I've been told it responds to closing the view and opening it again...then editing the text. My computer doesn't act up like this...so far...so I can't confirm it helps personally but others have told me it does. Hopefully it will for you too.

Thanks Steve for your quick response.

Hopefully the patch isn't too far away. I must say I'm enjoying the text
impovements otherwise in this release.

Regards,

Jon

Thank you for your posting. I have tried to see if I can reproduce this, but didn't happen on my machine.

Does this occur in a particular project, or in all projects? If it is on particular project, could you upload your sample file?

Is this related to a certain task or views? (I can see that you mentioned that this occurs in "Sheets") Could you provide more detailed steps to reproduce?

Do you have any other versions of Revit? Does it work without this issue?

If possible, please record this with Screencast, so that we can gather more information on this behaviour:

Hi we have just launched Revit 2017 LT here in NZ.

We have an issue where if we copy a text note in a view then try to edit the text in this copied text box it wont edit until clicking outside then back into the box and even then it sometimes doesnt work.

Hopefull a patch will fix this...

Hi Yumi,

The issue seems occur most when editing text from the viewports on a sheet. If the text editing starts acting up, (as suggested by another user) you can open up the individual view in a fresh window and the problem seems to go away.

That said; obviously not the ideal solution.

Screencast below.

I have the same problem with the text editor in Revit 2017.  After using the text editor for a while in Revit 2017, the editor suddenly stops working correctly.  The curser jumps around, arrow keys work in opposite directions, you can type text but it gets inserted where the software wants, you can delete text but only what text the software wants to.

I have tried a usb keyboard thinking it was a driver, but behaves the same as my bluetooth keyboard thinking. But no go.  Typically the editor first stops working when editing a view on an open sheet.  Sometimes if you open the view independently the text editor works again.  But no such luck today.  Closing out of the Revit software and restarting usually works.

My computer:  2013 MacPro, Windows 10 OS and Bootcamp. All updates are complete. This was never a problem in 2016 and 2015 full versions of Revit.

Thank you for your posting. This issue has been identified and documented in here:

Hope this helps.

Just to let everyone know that we have been experiencing the "on the sheet" text editing issue even after SP1. Some random instances of "in view" editing problems as well but not as bad as "on sheet". AutoDesk have our journal files and a sample project and are working on a solution. Thanks Yuri Kim!

Our work around at the moment is long winded... cut the text and copy into notebook, edit, then copy and paste back into the text box. Bring on the fix!

Jeff, on the contrary, I have SP1 and SP2 installed and the issue still exists with no change in behaviour after installing SP2.

SP1 and SP2 also did nothing for the issue we have with overwriting text - ie doesn't let you overwrite when highlighting text.

If still experiencing the issue after SP installed I would suggest contacting our Product Support team so further investigation can be done. Perhaps there is another issue causing the problem.

I have the same issue after SP2 update, but my install my less than 1 day old.

When editing text in the dialogue box, changing text is inconsistent. While highlighting the text (grayish-blue) highlighted the text cannot be changed.  One must backspace to erase the text and retype the note all over again.  This is somewhat frustrating.  For me, it not a case of going back the notes in a Detail View or Legend View, as they are short notes placed in the base model plans and elevations.

What seems funny, big paragraphs of text say like in a Code Summary, do not exhibit these issues.  Even the tabbing seems to remain in place after editing out of the text editor.  The notes are created in a Legends then placed on a drawing.

I can say, some text continues to disappear when going back to previous view. It requiring the resizing of text box margins to be made wider to view the disappearing text. For the record, all of the text is readable creating the notes. Revit does not seem to like Arial Black and Arial text fonts as this seems to be a continuing issue since the launch of 2017 Revit.

Hi Jeff,

2 weeks on since installing SP2 and the text box issues are still happening. I will report it again to support with yet another case number, but I can never find the link to contact support. I think it took me an hour last time to find it. If you could provide a link then that would be appreciated.

Not sure why us reporting the issue here can't be enough to trigger a case, the answer I have had before from support as their first avoidance tactic is to tell us to read this forum! Do I sound cynical enough? 🙂

I am sorry you are still having an issue. There are a lot of things here in this post.

  • The amount of time after installing a service pack is not going to fix the issue. Either the service pack addresses the issue or it does not. It seems as though this service pack does not address the issue you are seeing.
  • Yes please do report the issue to Product Support. There was a text issue that sounded a lot like what was being reported in this thread and it was addressed in the first 2 service packs. That is why I suggested installing them to resolve the problem. If you are still seeing and issue, it must be caused by some other software conflict not addressed in the first 2 service packs. The Product Support team can work with you to try and find the exact conditions that cause the issue and can reproduce it. A reproducible problem is much easier to understand and potentially find a fix. It is difficult for me to reproduce the problem without working directly with you on your file. It just is not as easily done here on a public forum as it is for our Product Support team who can work directly with you.
  • As far a a link to support, it can be found in your subscription administration page. click edit account from the top of the page here in the forums. On the account page I believe the link to product support is under the management section of your profile. As an employee I don't have a profile like a customer so I don't see that link, so I can't say exactly where it is. It may be in the upper right corner of the management page.
  • In some situations posting here does create a product support case automatically, but to be honest I am not sure of the criteria that causes that to happen. We do hope users look in the forums for potential solutions to their problems before they log a case with product support but of course understand the forums can't solve all issues. This particular issue is one of those cases where the product support team needs to work directly with someone having the problem to better understand when it happens so a potential resolution can be found.

On your Autodesk Account page, choose Management.

Then, near the upper right, choose the Support drop-down menu and select the View my support cases item.  That will open a new tab on which you can create a new case or review previous cases.
