Revit LT 2016 Simple wall Joins

Hello

Been using Revit LT since 2012 and when I usually see this problem it show up on the 3D and can usually see the error of my ways.

This is a bit Different ....Staring out it worked just normal but as I go I get these Wall joins (see attached ) one by one

I use the join tool but the only fix is to miter the corners

The 3d and elevations are showing the corner properly

Its only the exterior walls and not interior.

One thought I had is.... I use a template that I build up on over the years so maybe it is not compatable with the 2016 version?

I started a new project without the template, and the walls are joining properly (clean) and I also copied and pasted the main floor into it and the walls are fine but i havent worked in the new project to see if over time I get the same results

Or is there a setting I dont know about ?

Thank you for all you help    Its very much apreciated !!!

Wes

Try stretching the walls back some, then use the Trim tool.  Your wall structure should allow the to join just fine, so if that doesn't work it may just be a bug with your template.

Thanks ...Yes I tried that but with no avail..

I have just worked on 2 projects using the same template and it seems the other project is joining properly so far.

Can a loaded corrupt family do this ?

Possibly.  What you can also try is to cut both walls and then paste back into the same place.  Sometimes that does wonders.

Thanks   Yes ...Cut and paste was worth a try

   but doesnt work

Sure would like to know what is causing this before I do too much work which has to be redone.

Is there a way to contact AutoDesk about this ?

I Tried replacing the Horizontal wall with the 2 ft measure

It is having trouble connecing to the short wall now but I also see

the hilighted wall is butt joined and looks correct

Tried to use trim to reconnect but wont connect

Thanks Again for all your help

If this issue does not occur in a new project (when drawing similar wall geometry), you could try using the Transfer Project Standards command to bring the new project definitions into the original project.

Thank you for your Reply

Yes doing that works until i set the view range to see below

or if I extend the wall  (Siding only) below to cover my floor

Then this returns     Seems also to effect new Drawing as well

I guess right now the only solution is to miter every wall join ?   Would like to see this Fixed

Thanks

I’ve found I can reproduce this if I change the View Range and drag the finish layer away from the rest of the wall (to cover the floor).

Modifying the wall layer changes the Base Extension Distance parameter.

I’ve found if the Base Extension Distance is a non-zero value, and the View Depth includes area below the base of the wall, then you will see this behavior.

This article has more details: Base Extension Distance changes how walls joins look graphically (I just published the article, so it may take a few hours to show up on our website.)

So far I’m seeing the following options for working around this behavior (these are in the article above):

  • Adjust the View Range so that the View Depth does not go past the base of the walls.
  • Manually set the Wall Joins to Miter.
  • Reset the Base Extension Distance parameter to 0. (This will cause all of the layers of the wall to be aligned.)
  • Place a second wall against the interior/exterior of the existing one. (This will allow the different walls to have different height/base without a wall join issue.)

Is the Miter wall join option the easiest option in your situation?

Thank you

Yes that is exactly my Trouble !  One other thing I found maybe to add is

..... drawing new wall outside the project and match properties seems to join them at times as well.......

I have found those similar workarounds as well but certainly hope this isnt the end

In some cases one workaround is better than the other

View setting are an imprortant feature  and taking that away in some views is not an option

Mitering works sometimes but not in all cases

Not using a base extension shows a floor edge with is not usable in an elevation drawing

Putting a second wall - (no point in BIM modeling really) but the extra work is a last resort cutting windows etc.

I suppose I can put a siding only wall around the floor Leaves extra lines on the elevations and 3D plans

But they are all workarounds and alot of extra work

I extended the height of a wall for a parapet, butt joined it but the drywall shows between the walls so extra work again to cut that profile

I hope your article will put this in line to be fixed so it works like it should ...

Thanks again for your Attention and work on this !!!!  I will keep trying

This is being looked at, and updates on the issue should show up in the article posted previously.

Is it possible to move the base of the entire wall down to cover the floor (so you aren’t moving the siding separately from the rest of the wall)?

Yes there are many work arounds

Cut profile in sections and move floors and on and on it goes

The tools are all there but this is such a needed element in my drawings
seems they should work

I look forward to the updates

Until then ....
