Revit freezes when alt-tabing while Revit completes a command

Hello!

I am using Revit2017 for a month now and I haven't seen any bugs except this particular annoyance!

I do this often:

I give a command in Revit and since it takes for about 10-20 secs for it to complete the task, I often alt-tab to a web browser, excel etc. Then, when the command completes I switch back and continue my work.

HOWEVER SOMETIMES:

When I switch back to Revit window after Revit completed the command, all 99% of comands are greyed out, I can't make a selection, most importantly I can't save, or quit the program.

If I press alt and go to "R" button, then Suite workflows>Workflow Manager, and then close it, I regain control over opening views and zooming, but that's it! I cannot continue working on my project!

I tried quiting the program (killing the process would delete my unsaved work), closing all views however Revit displays a dialog saying "Attempted an unsupported operation".

I suspect that this could be that there is a hidden Revit dialog or a Revit popup window opened after the command, which is now hidden somewhere because of alt+tabing. I cannot bring it into focus using alt+tab, ctrl+tab (it cycles through the views only), windows button+tab. It could be the one blocking all other commands, because basically the previous command didnt finish, it prompted a dialog that I can't see or interact with.

Again this is only my layman's opinion.

Please help, this is a repeating issue!!

this may be more of a system performance issue than a revit issue.  I would upgrade your memory RAM (8GB).  That is quite low for this day and age.  Your processor is good.  What graphics card are you using?  Have you tried to change the options within revit for enabling/disabling hardware acceleration? Does this issue occur on any file or just 1 or some files?  Can you reproduce this error on another workstation to rule out whether it is a file issue or a software issue or a workstation issue?

Dzanta,

Thank you for your response.

I can not reproduce the problem.

I sincerely doubt that its a hardware issue, since those few commands that I am allowed to use (mentioned in OP) run super smoothly! And all the other programs as well.

For starters, I would love to learn about a command that lets me bring up a pop up window, since that is my main suspect. This is acctually because I had very similar experience with autocad when it brings up a dialog window asking me if I want to reset annotation scales. But in AC, there is another window hiddent in the taskbar, so I just bring it back into focus and close it.

Perhaps a repair or reinstall will help...?
