Hello, im starting working with revit families and i need to know if there is any way of keeping the structure of objects of a rfa model imported in revit projects. I want to be able to select each part of that family once its imported to the revit project.

Thank you.

We do this by nesting shared families (e.g. the components you want to select individually in the Project) into the Host Family.

In the Project, use TAB-Select to select the individual components in the Host Family.

Im uploading to Autodesk-Forge my revit model (rvt) with only a family inside (rfa), but i cannot select individual elements from it. For example, in my rfa i have a door with two sections, panel and window but when i import that family into a revit project y cant select those sections anymore, same for autodesk-forge. Is there any way of doing that?

Create shared families for components you wish to select and nest them in your door family.

Im already doing that, but what i need is to select individual elements from a rfa imported in a rvt project. After loading a family in a revit project I need to be able to select the individual parts of that imported family but when selecting in revit it selects the entire object of the family.

You will need separate families for each individual part.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

You already have shared families nested in a master family for components and still can't TAB to select them individually in project?  Do you know how to make a family shared?

Below is an example:  1st image you see a family is selected.  2nd image you see one component inside the family is selected using TAB.

I have exacly that, but what i need is to select individualy the elements for Forniture (1), for example, armrest, wheels, backrest and so on, all the elements that conform that chair. You can do that in a RFA file, but I can't find the way to do it when that family is loaded inside my project.

I understand that, but if you export to NWC that RVT file with the family inside and open that NWC with Navis Simulate you can select each element separately, ¿how can navis do that and revit cant?. What i really want is to avoid that export and directly select in revit each part like Navis does if that is even posible without change my families.

Same deal.  Create different families for armrest, wheel, backrest and so on, then nest them in the chair family to create the chair.  When load the chair in the project, you can TAB select armrest, each wheel, backrest and so on individually.

I think the question that needs to be answered is, "Why?" It could be just a matter of workflow or an understanding of what Revit wants.

Because my main objective is show information of those individual parts but in Autodesk-forge, sadly forge cant translate RFA files into SVF and thats why im using RVT projects files.

Hello, My apologies for piggybacking another thread, but I didn't want to start a new thread if not necessary.

I am looking to bring in a group of furniture parts into Revit, but only have Inventor and Autocad to create them in.

The products are DocM washroom products that need to be manipulated (change position) once in Revit.

Saving all the products in one Autocad or Inventor file into rfa treats the rfa file as a complete block. Is there something that can be done in Inventor or Autocad that will allow the rfa file to be separated, as shown in the office furniture example that you posted?

Or should I be asking this in Inventor/Autocad forum?
