Is this a workshared file? Make sure to hang on to your latest backup and clear your locals before you audit it. Put it in a separate folder or something.
If auditing does not work, that means that the central model will need to be replaced. You will need to delete the central model and replace it with the latest backup that you have preserved. Once this is done, open the new model, relink all files, make sure that everything works.
If not a workshared file and auditing does not work, then rename the latest backup that you have preserved. You may lose some work.
