Hi folks,
I HOPE I'm in the correct spot...if not, hopefully someone can point me in the proper direction.
About me...I'm an IT Manager and my specialty is networking...having said that...my obstacle:
I have a project that has multiple companies working on the same project and on the same Revit models. We have setup an SD-WAN with all of the companies pulling the Revit models from one central location. Company A can open a Revit model in 5 minutes. Company B the same model takes 10 minutes and Company C it takes 20 minutes or longer to open, save etc... All three companies are in very different geographical locations. Some closer some farther away from the data.
I've done a generous amount of reading concerning Autodesk, in general, having issues with latency. I'm to understand that BIM360 was created to mitigate this very thing. One problem...every company, on every model, would have had to create their piece(s) within the BIM360 environment or it doesn't work. I've also heard there are challenges, regardless, with BIM360 but that might be a topic for a different day.
My question...what I need help with...what are other folks doing to mitigate this issue? We've tried remote desktop but that causes issues with how sensitive the mouse is etc... I've read extensively that latency is the "elephant in the room" so how are others tackling this problem? My management has essentially told me to improve performance. The question is...how do I do that? I've looked at everything, network related, that I can control and nothing. There are no problems if the models are on my local network...you move them to the SD-WAN accessed cloud spot and forget about it. Nightmare slowness.
Help! Thoughts? Thanks!

What exactly does management mean by this?
Hi Kirk,
Have you implemented Revit Server? Or do all companies directly access the files from your server?
You can have Revit Server set up in each company, to sync the files in the background. So the users will access files in their local network instead of directly accessing files from your server.
You can read more about Revit Server in this KB: About Revit Server.
