Hi

I have a one question.

I am a student and I'm planning to write my master thesis with software Revit. The work will be linked to the analysis of the energy performance of buildings in Revit. However, I don't know how it will be calculated the energy analysis. I am looking for this information, but I could't find. So I have a question.

Do you know the algorithm energy analisys of buildings in Revit? It can be a few sentences or information in another form.

Adding, It's important for me, becasue of this information depends on my thesis.

Thanks for reply and sorry for my English.

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

Here is an AKN Article that describes the various methods of using the Energy Analysis tool. I am not sure if this has enough detail for you but perhaps it is a starting point.

Hi @Anonymous

Welcome to the community! Smiley Happy

I'll try to answer your question, but as far as the exact algorithm used in Revit Coding for Energy Analysis:

  • You won't find it online as with most complex algorithms from Software companies. If it was publicly searchable, then everyone would have their own version of energy analysis software on the market, if that makes sense.

Advice which I can give you is to maybe reverse engineer some of the calculations to come-up with what you actually require for your thesis.

I'm not sure how experienced or familiar you are with Revit. Seeing as you are confident enough to do your thesis with the software, I'll then assume that you might have noticed some of the calculations and default thermal properties which you can use and/or changed with Revit prior to running energy simulations

I'm jumping around a bit above, but the short answer is that the algorithm is not open to the public.

Something which you might want to look into is the free Building Performance Analysis Program from Autodesk and which might give you some insights on how the energy simulations are performed and which formulas play a part in some of the calculations.

You can go through the lessons which you feel is a priority for you in compiling your thesis.

I hope this helps! Smiley Wink
