How to unite a region of topography that was previously separated from the rest of the surrounding topography? I separated an area of the land where the architectural project will be carried out from the rest of the topography, so that when I change the contours of my terrain, the contours outside the terrain would not change. I happen to want to modify the region of my terrain, and the problem is that I can't merge the region that was previously separated with the rest of the existing topography of the surroundings (I reasoned that I need to merge two regions so that I can redraw the area that will be separated again ). Can someone help me?

This is the big disadvantage of the new tool, the detached part is now impossible to attach.

That is an absurd, I wrongly designed the land on which an architectural project will be made and I would need to adjust it, are you telling me that I will have to create a project from scratch again just to fix this?

It appears that this happens only when you use a spline to slice.

Hi, I have this issue as I measure the topography of a site from several stations which results in seperate datasets these then need to be combined. I used to manage this easily with the old merge topography tool.

 

My current workaround is rather clunky but does work! I have the following workflow (which will also work to rejoin split toposolids)

  • Create the seperate toposolids in Revit and get them aligned relative to each other
  • Export to stl format
  • Load into Blender
  • remove all of the surfaces except for the top surface
  • Export the points to a text file (using an excelent macro for Blender that I found with a web search)
  • Create a new toposolid from CSV in Revit

Voila, only takes a mere few hours!

You can also fill in holes and gaps in a toposurfce like this and add pints in the CSV file to extend the new surface

 

It's a bit of a pain but quite flexible once you are familiar.

 

I guess someone with a full version of Revit could write a macro to export the points directly but I only have Revit LT (my turnover is too small to justify the full version which is a shame)

Hello @lu_cas_alves and @architects4 

I got a solution that is a bit better, but still not the optimal solution that we all are looking for.

 

  • Isolate the topography surfaces you want to merge.
  • Export the scene to DWG - Both Solids or Mesh works
  • Link the DWG back into Revit
  • Now create a Toposolid from Import and pick the DWG you just imported.
  • You can now erase the old ones

 

Please do vote on this post regarding merging toposolids. I am surprised that at the time I am writing this, only 15 votes, including mine, are to be seen.

This is an interesting solution.
I will definitely try this. It sounds much simpler than my method using Blender!

Haider_of_Sweden,

When I create the Toposolid from the Imported DWG,  all of the points have a z value of 0 - the new Toposolid is flat.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I used to do topography work in just a few minutes with the ground points. I could align with the walls, wouldn't accidentally move the terrain because instead of moving the point, I move the terrain... I could SEE the points I wanted to align with a reference plane... All this in exchange for a "better representation" and digging holes under the ground. Things that I bet not even 5% of users need... Congratulations, they messed up one of Revit's most powerful tools.

@handjonathan Can someone at Autodesk address this issue?

RE: Inability to merge topo solids after they have been split?!? This is a huge oversight. Its the only way to work with topography effectively on slightly larger sites/ more complex sites with more points. Not to mention anything bigger!!!

Secondly, the fact that subdivisions cant exist with a +0.000 elevation is also insane to me. I have seen some forums asking for there to be an ability to go negative in elevation as well which i think is a great idea.

 

This should definitely be a hotfix at this point. 2 years of no improvement is crazy.
