Revit 2025 Site Excavate Tool Issue

I am working on using two toposolids (existing and new), and using a schedule to compare the cut/fill between the two. The "existing" toposolid is a flat toposolid at the finished floor elevation of level 1 which is mimicking a flat building pad provided by the owner before the GC gets on site.

In order to create the New toposolid surface, I am using the excavate tool and excavating the floors which contain a lot of sloping for drainage (first floor of a parking garage) from the new toposolid (I used model in place component voids for a few cleanup spots, but not having issues with that). This seems to work 90% of the time, but I am having a very strange occurrence when excavating this one specific floor. You can see in this image, the cut shows 2247CY of cut, and as soon as I excavate the main floor it seems to error out and the cut goes to 0 (I tried adding additional cuts elsewhere and it refuses to change from 0 at this point, so it is not like there is actually 0 cut here, the vault in the middle is 100% cutting into the existing topo)

The only thing I can get to make numbers populate again is by raising or lowering the main floor a few inches.

I am fairly certain this is a bug in R25, but wondering if anyone has any ideas for workarounds/alternate workflows for this?

I would help us to help you if you could post your RVT file here for us to test.  Can you do that?  

Option B: Report the possible "BUG!" directly to Autodesk via your autodesk.manage.com account portal.

Sure here you go. You can use the "Toposolid Schedule" and "3D View: Test Toposolid Excavation" views to see what I am talking about. I saved it with everything excavated except the problem floor, so upon opening, there should be numbers populating the schedule correctly. But once you excavate the main floor out, it will go to zero.

Thanks for the tip on reporting the bug as well, I was not sure where to do that!

It's a little hard to follow you, but what I notice right off, is that you are not using a Graded Region Copy Workflow. When I do, I get a slightly different result for Net Cut/Fill.  I get 23618.75 compared to your 23633.86 for a total 15.11 difference.  Is this what you are talking about?

We had tried both graded region as well as just copy and pasting the existing and new topo. We have them organized by using phases and naming them appropriately and then use the phasing in the schedule to calculate the difference between the two.

Is using the graded region generally more accurate? I think that's a seperate issue from what I was talking about, but just curious. 

The issue I am having is that when I excavate the big floor in the middle from the "new toposolid", the cut value just goes to zero on my as well as a coworkers computer (Again it did this whether I used a graded region workflow or not).

Yah, I'm still not sure what I'm looking for, but so far, I don't find anything "buggy".

yes that is correct, it does show the volume there in the properties just fine. The cut volume I am looking at is on the schedule specificially that compares the volume of the existing vs new toposolid

Huh? Your Schedule does not report the Volumes of the 2 toposolids named "Existing topo" and "New topo". Nor is there any cut/fill volumes to compare between them.

The way it is setup, my understanding (someone else did the R&D on the schedule specifically) is that it compares the existing to the new. Anywhere there is a cut in the new that does not exist in the existing (the excavations) reports as a cut in the schedule. Anywhere that there is a fill in the new that does not exist in the existing reports as a fill in the schedule and the net cut/fill should be the difference between the two.

This appears to work when other floors are excavated. It is only this one specific floor causing issue

All's I can tell you is to use phases and graded region copies. It'll make the process a whole lot more intelligible and easier to manage.  It'll definitely help with scheduling, as you can see in the attached exhibits.  Keep in mind that topo Volumes shown in the Schedules represent the volume at the conclusion of the Phase - not the beginning of the Phase.   

Regarding these exhibits, Phase 1 exhibit is not really a phase of construction.  I just included it here to illustrate what is "going to happen" based on what your RVT is telling me.  It tells me that the existing volume of earth (your "Existing topo") is going to be swallowed up by another volume of earth (your "New topo"). In other words, a Topo within a Topo.  Phase 2 is the byproduct of the comingling of the two Topos.  Next, in Phase 3, the Phase 2 topo is cut with your In-Place Modeled Toposolid Void.  Next, in Phase 4, I placed that massive floor of yours.  This is where I'm stopping.  I don't think I need to place rest of your floors, foundations, walls and whatnots for you to see where it's going.
