revit 2025 graphics tab in material browser not working

I recently updated Revit to 2025 from 2024. . Now, I can no longer modify any typical graphic settings, i.e., cut and surface patterns, for any materials. When I access the Materials Browser and select any materials graphics tab, it flickers briefly, showing a duplicate of the appearance tab, and goes blank.

Same issue. Absolutely mind blowing that Autodesk has not fixed this yet.

A Revit Material Repair Utility is now available to restore the material files that were incorrectly removed by the Revit uninstall.  Additional information regarding this utility can be found in the Revit release notes, https://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2025/ENU/?guid=RevitReleaseNotes_2025updates_html.

This still happens in Revit 2026!

I have revit 2026.1 and there is no option to reinstall or repair the current install it.
My understanding is that this occurs when you delete a previous version of Revit, regardless of which version it will cause this problem.

The identity and appearance tabs still work

My take is;

#1 This should never happen

#2 Where is the fix without having to remove the current ver of Revit and reinstall from scratch?

#3 Where is the solution for Revit 2026.?

Luckily the 2025 the MaterialsRepairUtility.exe also solves the issue on the 2026 ver but really this shouldn't happen.

Yup. Just happened to me on R26 as well.

Is that MaterialsRepairUtility.exe really just supposed to open a command window? I've downloaded and run it twice and that's all that happens.

@mhiserZFHXS I ran mine in Admin mode and of course restarted Revit

I did all of that as well, but again, the .exe just opened a command window when it was done. And there was no change in Revit. 

I just wound up uninstalling and reinstalling Revit. Not exactly a great use of time, but I couldn't wait around for an answer.

Having the same issue.  First updated to latest version of 2025.4 and it didn't fix the issue.  ChatGPT suggested that reinstalling Revit 2024 solves the issue with the Revit 2025 graphics tab showing BLANK... Trying that...

Reinstalling Revit 2024 fixes the issue.  Uninstalling Revit 2024 after installing Revit 2025 causes this issue.

Uninstalling Revit 2024 after Revit 2025 is installed, may cause a blank Graphics tab in the Material Browser within Revit 2025. This is caused by the Revit 2024 uninstall process removing shared material files. To restore the material files, please run the Revit Material Repair Utility.

Note: Once the utility starts, there is an initial file unpacking process, which may take approximately 20 seconds before the interface shows progress.

@akshay_surveKTDLP unfortunately this is not the case as it still occurs in Revit 2026.
Maybe we will get lucky with Revit 2027 but we will have to wait and see 🙂
