Revit 2018 LT File Corrupted and Won't Open

When attempting to open a recently created Revit project, I get the following error message.

"The model (filename).rvt is missing many elements, and it cannot be opened."

I searched your forums for various troubleshooting methods, all of which have been unsuccessful. I cannot open my file with the Audit function checked. All of my backup files are corrupted and unopenable. I even tried upgrading the file from a 2018 LT file to a 2019 LT (I have both versions) and that was unsuccessful.

I'm kind of at a loss right now. This file needs to be recovered, otherwise I've lost my entire project. Does anyone have ANY help at all on how to recover my file?

If this is a standalone file, or workshared on a server:

-Browse to the file location

-Highlight the .rvt file in the folder, then go to Properties>Previous Versions.

-See if you can open an older version --prior to when the corruption happened.

Unfortunately, my file isn't old enough to have any previous versions available to restore...another option that doesn't work.

Make sure you have all updates installed for Revit.

Also...are you opening the file from Revit or double clicking from File Explorer?

Hi Rob,

There isn't much background to the file. All of my components and families were pre-loaded into the file because of my custom template. The only thing I loaded in were 2 garage doors and a JPEG. The garage doors aren't corrupt because I've loaded them into projects literally hundreds of times. And I know the JPEG wasn't either because it was my own photo. Other than those two things, everything was pre-loaded in the project.

It was a pretty standard drawing procedure starting out. Walls, windows, doors, text, etc.

So, it should be fairly easy to recreate the steps and test at various stages to see where the corruption happens or, even better, doesn't happen.

Do you have some sort of unrecommended file structure like using external drives or non Autodesk cloud service?

Redrawing what I had will have to be my option for now...I do have both of those.

Start using recommended workflows to avoid file corruption and loss of work.
