Revit 2018 Extensions - Freeze drawings

It appears that the Freeze drawing command is no longer available in the 2018 Extensions.  Is there any plans to add it?

This feature is missing from the new versions, however if you place the attached files in the following folder, it should appear when you open Revit.

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit\Addins\2018

I downloaded the files and placed them in the folder but it didn't work. Is there anything else I need to do?

Try to use another zip tool to extract the files.  I had it happen where the files from one zip tool worked, but not another.

Use 7 zip, right click the zip folder and select the 'extract here' option.  Then copy the files over to the folder.  This will work.

I was able to unzip the file and place them in the correct folder but nothing shows up in Revit.

I copied the files in the 2018 add-in folder but it gave DLLL error in 2018.  Then I did the same thing to 2017 and it works.  I closed 2017 and started 2018 again and it works as well.  Strange.

The files are sensitive, in that if they are not unzipped in a particular way, they won't work. 

E.G Install 7zip > right click the freeze drawing zip > select extract here > copy and paste files into folder.

I have also uploaded my unzipped files to dropbox.   Please let me know this solution worked.

Toan,

I was getting an AddInManager.dll error for R2017 but not R2018. However, I was getting a dll error in 2018. Also, the Extensions pulldown was not listed in 2018 Ribbon so I made sure it was loaded. Then I copied the AddInManager.dll into the AddIn folder for 2018. That at least now lists the Freeze tool. But now I'm getting the attched error message. Any ideas?

I managed to make it show up in the External Tools tab on the ribbon but get the following error:

Has anyone been able to get freeze drawing to work in Revit 2018? We are having the same issues, it works in 2017 but not in 2018.

Wasn't the "freeze" add-in basically just creating a Drafting view and then a Cad .dwg file?

Maybe just export to Cad if the add-in is such a headache to get working?

You are correct about what the add-in did to create the freeze drawings.  Your solution is what I did for a work-around but it is not nearly as convenient as the freeze command was.  The results are the same but it takes longer with more steps.

What is end game/purpose for your "frozen" drawings?

Maybe there's a better/more effective way?

When we have a number of views that we want to isolate (live geometry details are usually the issue) the freeze tools made this process much easier. And it was more than an export process and cost less to perform. One of those solutions that needs to continue.

It is still not as convenient as the Freeze command because you need to save it out to a file then go find it and reinstall it back into the project.  The old way select a detail (or several) and they are drafting views with no other steps.

The reason that I do it is to be able to put a detail on multiple sheets.  I produce precast production drawings and my client wants all of the details for each piece on the sheet.  I may need to use the same detail on several hundred sheets and Revit will not allow that.  What I do is freeze the detail and then copy the line work to a legend which can then be added to multiple sheets.

I have been telling Autodesk that I need a way to place a detail on multiple assembly sheets for years but do they care?  No!  Sigh.
