Revit 2018 Extensions - Freeze drawings

It appears that the Freeze drawing command is no longer available in the 2018 Extensions.  Is there any plans to add it?

I'd very much like to get this one working in 2019. I downloaded the ZIP, extracted using 7zip and copied to the Addins folder. This works great for 2018, but not for 2019. The Addin appears in Revit 2019, but as soon as I click it, it hangs for a moment, then 2019 crashes. As I said, 2018 works great. Anyone had anything similar? Any ideas?

For others who may be searching on this issue...

If you are getting the DLL "does not exist" error, it can be fixed  in one of two ways...

1.  Edit the DRevitFreezeDrawing.addin file, and update the path in line 4 (the Assembly line) to the correct path where you are putting the files.

-OR-

2.  Put a copy of the DRevitFreezeDrawing.dll in C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit\Addins\2017.

Hi @j.keysers

Just checking back if you saw post 27 and tried the recommendations?

If you are getting the error "Revit could not complete the external command", I have found that if your remove the file named "Autodesk.RevitExtensions.Revit.addin" from the 2018 addins folder, suddenly the Freeze Drawing addin starts working just fine.  Unfortunately, removing that file also gets rid of the "Extensions" tab in Revit, so choose your poison.

I am having the same issue with the program crashing with both 2018 and 2019. I have tried repair etc with no luck. Any assistance would be appreciated

M 5 cents here - trying to revive a deprecated plugin in an current version is probably not a good idea - complete rebuild may be required...

SOLUTION FOR EVERYONE:

Extract the zip with 7zip (not winrar, winzip)

Copy contents to C:\Program Data\Autodesk\Revit\Addins\2018

After Extraction find this file: DRevitFreezeDrawing.addin

Open it with Notepad

It looks like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RevitAddIns>
<AddIn Type="Command">
<Assembly>C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit\Addins\2017\DRevitFreezeDrawing.dll</Assembly>
<ClientId>b3285fd3-c3b4-48ea-a8c6-c64b71eeb34c</ClientId>
<FullClassName>REX.DRevitFreezeDrawing.DirectRevitAccess</FullClassName>
<Text>DRevitFreezeDrawing</Text>
<Description>Freeze Drawing for Revit</Description>
<VendorId>ADSK</VendorId>
<VendorDescription>Autodesk, www.autodesk.com</VendorDescription>
</AddIn>
</RevitAddIns>

In the 4th line, change the version to yours. If you're using Revit 2018 you should change 2017 to 2018. It works after that.

This does not work. Not for me anyway. Extension works in version 2018 and previous, but not 2019, and I get the same issue with the new 2020. Which version of Revit are you using?

Can anyone confirm this working in either 2019 or 2020?

Please ignore other posts suggesting it matters which program you unzip the files with.  It *does not* matter.  Instead, refer to my posts, and you'll get it working.  I have it working fine on 2019.

That solution seemed to work, but now Revit just crashes when I hit the add-ins button.

It's insane how backwards it is to get such a *simple* tool. I just want to add annotations in a 3-d view, why is this so hard? Autodesk isn't even trying!!

It's weird how hit and miss this is. Some people get it working fine, others (like me) can't geti ti working no matter what hey try. Frustrating.

I was only able to get it to work after I installed 7zip which is frustrating given that this is the only thing I have ever used it for.

Here's a weird one for you all. I did everything as told to do so originally by ToanDN & it loaded & appeared as expected.  --Except, when in an ISO/3D view & I run the addin it will start & run but will not actually create the drafting view as suggested. Does it not work with 3D/Iso?

JJRevitUser   At the risk of highjacking this tread (although I am the original poster so I will risk it) I have found a much better way to solve my original problem.  The reason that I needed to freeze drawings was so that I could copy and paste them into Legends to allow me to place them on multiply sheets for my precast piece drawings.  The results were workable but did not look anywhere near as good as the original Revit view.

Now I am using the "save to project as an image" function.  I set the scale to 100% and the raster image quality to 600.  The resulting image will show up in the browser as a rendering at a scale of 12"=1'-0".  Open the rendering file and select the graphics and copy with "control-C and paste it into a legend that has a scale of 12"=1'-0".  I have a template legend that has the detail number, bubble and line, detail name, and scale that I use for these.

Fair Enough. I was only looking into this tool as an option for something our mechanical guys wanted. Thanks!

Introduce him to the Image function.  It might do everything that he really needs.  I find it much better than the freeze function ever was!

I have attached a pdf of the same detail that has been "imaged" and frozen.  The image maintains all of the shading and half-tone that is lost in the frozen view.
