Revit 2017 metric to imperial template settings

Anonymous
Not applicable

First let me start off by stating that I am extremely familair with Autodesk products; having used Autocad for over 20 yeas now and Inventor for about 7 now. I'm experimenting with Revit at home and finding it extremely frustrating just to set up.

First off because it seems to have detected I'm from Canada I guess it has defaulted to metric. Unless you're doing a government job here, metric is pretty much not used.

So, I see that I can go into my settings and INDIVIDUALLY switch my units from metirc to imperial. Wow...no global setting? What a massive waste of time.

Great, now I'm in an imperial setting. Oh wait..no I'm not. All my wall types, etc  are metric.

I go into my library and it shows a folder labeled Canada, but I see nothing obvious there that lists metric or imperial families.

For a first time user, this set up is way too difficult.

Why can't it be more like the rest of the Autodesk family where you can toggle faiirly simply between metric and imperial templates?

The Canada Content Library doesn't have metric (at least not till 2016) ... I am not sure but I don't think they changed that it in 2017...

You have 2 Options:

  1. Download the US Imperial (From windows control panel >> Content Library 2017 >> add contents
  2. Make/save your own template files... (convert them once; save them and set the path under R icon >> Options >> File Locations)
