Revit 2017 has stopped working

Anonymous
Not applicable

Have a client that we just did a fresh install of Revit 2017 for. Revit crashes immediately when trying to run and gives the error Revit has stopped working with Kernelbase.dll being the faulting module.

Below is the full error report. Does anyone know of a resolution? I've been working with Autodesk since october for BDSP 2017 crashing issues with no fix. The only thing that has been working for me is profile rebuilds which i don't want to continue doing for 1 piece of software.

System is a Dell T3600 with Windows 7 Enterprise.

Hi, Support!

I'm Judy, a Revit specialist. I see your Revit 2017 isn't working. I'll be happy to help troubleshoot, but I'll need some additional information from you. First, in what way is it not working? In other words, are you getting an error message, does the software just shut down and go away, or does it quit in the middle of a project? If you are getting an error message, can you please send a screenshot of the error?

What build of Revit 2017 is installed? You might try updating to the latest build, which is 2017.1.1 to see if that makes a difference.

If it does not, please send me a journal file from the affected computer(s) using the following procedure to ensure that only the relevant information is recorded in the journal:

  1. Close Revit completely (so that a new session can be started).
  2. Reopen Revit.
  3. Reproduce the issue.
  4. Without closing Revit, collect the latest (highest-numbered) journal file. Journal file names have this format: 0001.txt.

Journal files can be found here:

Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Autodesk\Revit\<Product name and release>\Journals (NOTE: If you don’t see the AppData folder, you may need to check the Show Hidden Files and Folders button in the Control Panel.)

Please let me know if this helps. If you need more help, I'll be glad to continue helping until we have a solution.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Best regards,

Judy Staicer

Hi Judy,

Thanks for the response. Please refer to ticket 12479165. This has been ongoing for almost 2 months with no resolution yet. All logs etc are attached to that case.

Hi, Kevin,

I can only imagine how frustrating this must be! Ironically, I did a screensharing session with another customer and our development team today where we found that the problem seemed to be caused by the Print Audit software (it's been incredibly difficult to troubleshoot, so I understand your frustration!). After that, one of the developers sent me the link to this forum thread because he found that you've got the same problem, which is affecting Revit, and apparently AutoCAD as well (I talked to Alex about this). I suggest uninstalling Print Audit and rebooting your machine; let me know if this works.

Although you may not be printing when the problems occur, it seems that the way Print Audit works in the background is having an adverse effect on other Revit processes.

Print Audit in combination with some Windows updates seems to be implicated. Please see this discussion on the Math forum for additional details about the Windows updates they found to be at issue.

Here's a discussion in the AUGI forums about a similar problem.

Finally, it looks as though the Print Audit 8 updates have addressed the problem where the software causes Revit to crash. I suggest testing after uninstalling your current Print Audit software to make sure that your software operates normally without Print Audit in the picture; if so, you might then try installing the latest version of Print Audit to test and see if there are any further problems or whether the patch has solved the problems.

Let me know what you find. I'll be looking forward to your reply.

Best,

Judy Staicer

Same issue unfortunately. Still kernelbase as the faulting module. Removed PA6 all together and removed any of the security updates that may of caused issues in the links you sent me.

Hi, Kevin,

Thanks for trying those suggestions, and sorry to hear that didn't help. The next step is to gather more troubleshooting information.

1. Is your software up to date? If not, please install the latest update, which is Revit 2017.1.1

2. What are the symptoms you're seeing? Are you getting an error message? If so, please send a screenshot of the message. Does the crash happen before or after you have opened a project?

3. Is this happening for all users or one user?

4. Did anything else change on your system(s) around the time when this problem began?

I'd like to have a look at some journal files which are often helpful in diagnosing problems like this.

Please collect journal files from the affected computer(s) using the following procedure to ensure that only the relevant information is recorded in the journal:

Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best,

Judy Staicer

has there been ANY progress to this? Same issues persist on a clean install and no AV.

Have you tried different profiles to  see if the issue occurs on all profiles?
