Repeat Pattern on Surface Issue

Can anyone tell me why this repeating adaptive pattern family is not sticking to the face of this surface?  A total noob to this adaptive family world and any help is appreciated.

Why do you need four of them? One adaptive point is enough.

Hah.  Yes, true enough.  I'm just trying to get my head around the 2x2 pattern family and understand its behavior better.
