Rendering Lighting Settings

Hi All.

I am rendering camera perspectives and having an odd way to achieve desired results.

If I choose the lighting scheme exterior sun and artificial results are in screenshot #1:

Time: 9pmTime: 9pm

If I choose the lighting scheme interior sun and artificial results are in screenshot #2:

Time: 9pmTime: 9pm

So exterior gives me completely black render with lamp post "lit" but not emitting any light rays? Interior scheme gives me at least some visible render (albeit dark as expected) but can see sky and a very faint glow of the lamp post light rays hitting the ground below it in a very tight diameter.

1. Why would interior work better than exterior scheme in an exterior perspective view?

2. Why is lamp post light not brighter (dimming set to 1) and also not give a larger diameter of rays around the light source. BTW: light source in family is hemi but I have also set to a "sun" type source in a new family with seemingly little change.

3. I would expect the glass globe to "glow" not be hot white to attempt to get an amber glow I tried dimming settings from 1; 0.5; 0.25 and I get change to the light on the ground and reflection in the windows on the building but globe is still hot white? See images above.

I will continue to play with settings for lighting but the scheme setting is confusing me as to why this is?

TIA!

Cheers!

Rick...

Hi,

The problem is not the scheme, but your sun configuration, at this moment it seems that you are using the "Ligthing" option, this configuration does not work well when your camera is tilted. To correct it, you should use the "Still" option in the sun setting and choose a specific day and time.

Thanks @jedry but I am either using 'Still' or 'Single Day' only one that gives me okay results is 'Still' and only from a camera perspective view. Something is amiss if I only change the scheme and get these drastic of results.

Correct me if I am wrong but the difference between the schemes exterior vs interior option is the position of the camera right? using the +Artificial options with either accounts for man-made lighting being taken into account.

I would think either option would in the later evening hours when sun is down should have a moonlighting affect...but maybe that's just me.

Thanks again.

Hi Rick,

The difference between interior and exterior is that the exposure of the camera is affected because indoors we have less amount of light, in addition, light rebounds and other features that improve the appearance of the render in low light conditions are activated indoors.

Maybe you edited the exposure of the camera and that's why the render is so dark. See the attached image.

Please check the location of the project, often this influences the natural lighting.

I do not know where the project is located, but the render time says 9:00 PM? please try to render near at noon.
