R19, How can I add the proper family type to a downloaded Revit Family?

Hello

How can I add or change the family type to a downloaded Revit Family, so that it can be properly controlled by the visibility graphics?  I haver attached an example downloaded from R-Cty.  I would like this to be controllable as "Vehicles" in the "Site" family types.

Thanks

You can open it in the family editor and change the category - See attached.

Thanks.  Can you be a little more step by step?  I must be missing a detail.  I get the following message when I tried that.

No Site Family Loaded.JPG

Below is the visibility graphics window showing how I am trying to control the family.

Catagory - Site - Vehicles.JPG

Thanks

Try the following:

Double click the element in the project that is not the right category.  This will open it in the family editor.

Once open, in the Create menu, look at the top left for the icon shown in the previous screenshot.

Click this to open it and change the category to the correct category.

To the right of the screen there is an icon that says 'Load into Project'. Click this.

Your family should now be the correct category.

Maybe this model can help figure it out.  In this downloaded family model, the modeled elements do follow the proper visibility controls (Site- Vehicles).  But, the dashed, tire symbolic lines stay visible.  Part of this model works properly and part does not.  See attached file.

Thanks

What are you trying to figure out?  In your first screenshot, change the category to site to change the family category.

Is this now a different problem?

Thanks TimELZ49

I don't see an Icon in your image which is below.  However, I think That we got to a common ground as shown in the next image.  Where do I add the parameter about "Vehicles"?  Because, without the specifier I can only control it by turning off all of the sitework.  Which is not how/why I am trying to control this.

Where do I add "Vehicles"?

Site but not Vehicles.JPG

OK, in the family, go to Manage, Object Styles where you can set the different categories.  You will see that there is a Vehicle category there.  See image.

Okay.  Is there a way to convert the pieces that are currently "Site" to "Site- sub category / Vehicles"?

If it was just line types that would probably be an easy switch.  But it seems to be elements.

The elements have a sub-category in the properties.  You can change them all at once if you like.
