"Selection Box" always zoom to extents in Revit

Hi!

Is there a reason that the command "Selection Box" always zoom to extents?

I use this alot in my 3D-views just to focus on a wall and it's surroundings (instead of isolate). It's really anoying that the zoom changes I just want to set the section box with this command.

(I get that it does this way when I use the command from a plan view)

I use this feature a lot and I think it works fine.

Can you post an image of what its doing, and one of what you expect it to do please.

I forgot to mention that this bug? is greater when I use scope boxes.

So when I use the selection box the command zooms to the extents of the scope box.

This is really annoying on large models with large scope boxes.

It's hard to show with pictures so just try to make a large scope box and try again.

Ah ok, Yes with a scope box it zooms tho the extents of the scope box.

You could try this

Select the scope box and in Properties - edit the Views Visible, set the override for the 3D view to Invisible

Then use Selection Box again. This works for me.

That works but is not a good solution.

I want to see my scope boxes to use it for selection box commands.

for example

I select a wall and use selection box, when I'm done editing this wall I select the scope box for the current part of the building I'm modeleing and again use selection box.

I guess a lot of users would like it to work this way.

I would say that is the answer to your first question.

You want to use selection box and keep the scope box and having both will zoom to the extents of the scope box.

Not the answer you wanted.

Maybe someone else will come along with another solution, but I cant think of one.

Also I would like to be able to select an assembly and select the selection box command.

Go to Visibility/Graphics Ovverides>tab Annotation Categories and  uncheck "Scope Boxes"

I have the same issues and tried both the suggestions without any luck.  it is so time consuming to zoom in all the time.  Would love a solution to this.

What part are you struggling with?

The zoom extents when applying the selection box cannot be changed. If you have scope boxes visible, they will be included in the zoom extents even if they aren't selected.

I selected all scope boxes in the project and selected invisible for 3D views.  In my 3D view I have unselected scope boxes in the visibility graphics. (Both these methods were given as solutions above).  When I select an item (e.g. a pipe or a sprinkler) and then type 'BX' for selection box, it is still zoomed way out.

Try creating a new 3D view. The one you are using may be corrupt.

The only other thing I can think of is that there is something about the elements in your selection that is increasing the extents.

Obviously, no solution has been accepted on this post because clearly the OP stated that he wants to always keep the Scope Boxes visible throughout the workflow. That being said, "Working with selection boxes without having Scope boxes" as well as "Not being able to hide or override scope boxes" are not related to the main topic.

Most probably you would be more successful if you start your own post, start with looking into solving the visibility and graphics issues of the 3D and then finding the most convenient  to have either or both Scope Box/Selection Box + automatic Zoom to whichever Extent is more Convenient

Apart from the above, the best you can do to work simultaneously with Selection Boxes and scope boxes  as @jps-johannes was aiming to is to get yourself acquainted with

1. Temporary View properties
2. and Keyboard shortcuts to Apply/Restore Temporary View properties

Routine will then work as follows (at least at my end):

• TT > BX to apply and Zoom in 
• TR > ZE to restore and Zoom out

This is more of a workaround than anything. But I downloaded the "Zoom to Selection" (linked below) extension to pretty much get around this issue. I do the section box keyboard shortcut, then immediately hit the Zoom to Selection keyboard shortcut (I made it ZX, and I made section XC, so it's pretty easy to type both of them.). This will automatically bring your section box into the elements you selected.
