Questions about Revit 2018 build

As we prepare to welcome Revit 2018, here is a question regarding processor requirements -

does Revit 2018 place any more demands on the video processor than 2017 did?

Does it dabble in multi-core processors? Currently, we are using I7-7700K (4.5gig).

Would it be a case of 'same game different name' or should we organize ourselves differently?

I7-7700K (4.5gig) should be fine for high performance for complex models.

Autodesk Revit software products will use multiple cores for many tasks, using up to 16 cores for near-photorealistic rendering operations. 

CPU type for minimum entry level configuration would be : 

• Single-or Multi-Core Intel® Pentium®, Xeon®, or i-Series processor or AMD® equivalent with SSE2 technology. Highest affordable CPU speed rating recommended.

For high performance, CPU type recommended is as follows:

• Multi-Core Intel Xeon, or i-Series processor or AMD equivalent with SSE2 technology. Highest affordable CPU speed rating recommended.

Video Display 1280 x 1024 with true color Video Adapter Basic Graphics:
Display adapter capable of 24-bit color

Advanced Graphics:
DirectX® 11 capable graphics card with Shader Model 3.
A list of certified cards can be found on the Autodesk Certified Hardware page.

What "tasks", other than rendering, use multiple cores?  And how much does having multiple cores benefit those tasks? I was under the impression that the base software does not take advantage of multi-core/thread processing but some of the other features, such as rendering, do. So it was best to try to get the highest clock speed possible and not worry too much about the number of cores.

That's exactly what i was looking for, thank you! I did not know that more and more functions each year are utilizing multi-core processing.

Please note that there are differences between the background processes from release to release.

Multi-threaded processes in Revit 2014:

• Vector printing
• 2D Vector Export such as DWG and DWF
• Rendering (4 Core Limitation lifted in Revit 2011)
• Wall Joins representation in plans and sections
• Element Loading. Loading elements into memory is multi-threaded, reducing view open times when elements are displayed for the first time in the session.
• Parallel computation of silhouette edges (outlines of a curved surfaces) in perspective 3D views. Engaged when opening views, changing view properties, and navigating the view and will be more noticeable as the number and complexity of curved surfaces increases.
• Translation of high level graphical representation of model elements and annotations into display lists optimized for given videocard. Engaged when opening views, changing view properties and will be more noticeable as the number and complexity of model elements increases.
• File Loading
• Point Cloud Data Overlay

Multi-threaded processes in Revit 2017:

• Vector printing

• DWF Export as individual sheets utilizes multiple processes.
• Color fill calculations are processed in the background on another process.
• Calculation of structural connection geometry is processed in the background on another process
