Protect your 'source' revit project

Hello all,

If the client asks for the revit 'source' file, is there any way to send him a rvt. in which he will not be able to save the project? 

Or is there any other function that I can do in order to be 'covered' that he will not take the project and go away?

I think there is no possibility to send the file and protect it.

-If he is no Revit expert you could lock it down by being owner of each workset before sending.

Otherwise it is much easier to give your client access to a part of your server and have a empty file with your project linked in.

The project is a central model so I detached it and disabled the worksets.

If I linke the project in an empty file there is the option to bind it, no? So he will also have all the informations and families that the project contain

True, I think when giving revit files you are always taking that risk. It's just that you have more control over it on your own server. Otherwise you have to think about IFC or DXF if you want to give less information.

And if I want to share the file just for visualization purpose...does the A360 the solution?

Sure, you can publish your project to A360, your client doesn't need to have Revit to see the model and interact with it.

We have done this in the past.

Export the Revit file to Navisworks (NWC). Open in Navisworks Manage or Simulate and save as a Navisworks (NWD). Tell the client to download Navisworks Freedom (free to download) and then he can open the Navisworks (NWD) file to view and navigate around it.

If they just want the source model....when you e-transmit the model you can strip it of all Sheets and views....thus all they get is the model and nothing else.

If they want the "source" file I assume they want the model, not just Sheets, so you can upload the Revit file to viewer.autodesk.com and share the link and they can view it online via a web browser.

To prevent them taking your model and run away, you need a good architect/client contract.
