Proof that coordinates are shared!

Sorry I am having terrible difficulty with a particular project and shared coords.

Smodel1

Amode1

Amodel2

So I am the owner of smodel and linking the Amodel1 with shared coords - no problem

Linking Amodel2 - reports they do not share coords. No matter what I have done thus far (publishing coords to amodel2 and saving) it will not import in as expected to shared coords.

The owner of amodel1 and amodel2 says they import to and from each other fine their side. They don't mine.

I note that their models are exports from Central Model. Can this impact on me?

Is there a way to compare the coordinates on each of the files independently to check coordinate set-ups.

The obvious problem with the amodel2 when linking is it is rotates off expected axis.

From your description it sounds like Smodel1 and Amode1 have shared coordinates setup, but the model Amodel2 does not (this is why you receive the report that they don’t share coordinates).

The following article shows a method to bring the “new” model to share coordinates with the existing models:

Can you test the steps in the article above and confirm that it works for you?

Publishing and acquiring shared coordinates should be taken from/to a single Revit model file to prevent that from happening.

If your project has a base template file, you could use that to publish and acquire coordinates.

Sounds like Am2 is already linked into Am1 and the Am2 Link just needs be changed in it from Overlay to Attachment so that when you link in Am1, it’s Am2 Link it will be visible and selectable in Sm1. Open Am1 and make this change to the Am2 Link, save, close and Link Am1 into your Sm1. 

Be forewarned that you may have messed things up by trying to Publish your Sm1 Coordinates to Am2.  Try and see.

Thanks for the replies. It turns out that the owner of Am1 and Am2 had actually changed Am2 so that was the actual problem. Although I cannot and will not be able to figure why they said they were sharing perfect their side. maybe we were using different versions of the am2 model.

One workflow I like, is to check if the Coord system is matching, and if not, use the API in Dynamo to change the ID of the Coord System. This does not change anything to your basepoints and survey points so it is relatively safe to use.

This however is only appliccable to the selected site, so beware of that.

In your case, of course, the other party needs to fix this, since they are product owner. It is possible that they work in a different "Site" than you are linking it. It pays off to check if the amodel has different sites set-up, in order to prevent the problem in the future.

so, do they have a current version of Am1 and Am2 that are linked correctly?  And, are you still able to Link Am1 into your Sm1 Project without issues? If so, this the above workflow I described should work.
