Problems with openings in Revit 2023

Sorry for the long post, I’m having a huge, huge problem with Revit 2023.  I just upgraded and I’ve  started a new project in the 2023.
I'm having problems with the windows and doors. It started from the get go. I was able to put in a couple doors just fine. But I went to change the type, the drop down in wouldn’t drop dawn. I push escape, nothing

. It doesn’t work. I can only get out with the modify arrow in the left corner. I click on an existing door, can’t change it. I rebooted, I could put in a door, again I can put in one, nothing. And the escape key doesn’t work. It’s not my computers escape key, it works in ever other program.
I try the windows, same thing. Every other component and walls I can change types just fine.  I could change the windows types in edit type. Then the sill and head heights stopped working, it was just a number not inches and feet. I had to align my windows to a reference point.
I met with an Autodesk support by person.  She  saw the problem and had  me reboot, of course it works. It was the first thing in the morning, I hadn’t opened Revit yet that day. She suggest if I had problems again to uninstall and reinstall. I do this, still not working.
Once in a while I’ll get a get lucky and it will work for a window, but it doesn’t stay.
my supervisor is having the same problems, so I know it’s just not a me thing.  He has the full version of Revit, I have LT, so it’s not an LT issue. It seems to get worse the longer you’re working on it. It has to be a Revit 2023 product problem.
I am beyond frustrated. I spent the entire day using the work around when it should have taken an hour or so.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?  Has anyone found a solution?  I can’t keep working this way. If it really want to copy the model back into Revit 2022, I’ve done too much other work in the project with the views that didn’t require seeing the openings.
I can’t keep working this way.

We are having the same issue with our standard template files. the workaround to purge isn't really helpful as we need the families in the template.

Agreed.  Workaround is not ideal - just a temporary band-aid. Hopefully there is a real fix coming. Incident is being investigated for a possible cause and resolution as of only a few days ago (April 11, 2022).

Consider the initial release a Beta.  Wait for at least one major service pack before you put it in production.

Hello Early Adopters of Revit 2023--

This issue resulted from work done on the type selector with respect to performance enhancement.  In almost all cases, the type selector drop-down is generated much more quickly in Revit 2023.  In some cases the performance gain can be quite large.

Unfortunately, our effort generated a bug--which will be corrected ASAP--that causes the type selector to lock-up in a very specific condition:

  1. The type selector is being used on a family category which contains types that have a built-in Thermal Resistance parameter (Window, Doors, and Curtain Panels have this... so they are the only  categories affected).
  2. Within that category, a specific minimum number of types exist.  This number appears to be around 40.  In the case of, say, Windows... if there are fewer than 40 window types in the browser, the problem will not occur with windows.
  3. The type selector is used more than once during a single action with the tool.  For example, you can use the type selector once to pick a window type, then place as many of those in the project as desired.  At this point, if you try to use the window type selector again, it will lock-up.  If you use a different tool then return to the window type selector, you can use it again one time.  Repeat as needed.

We know that Purge All can often correct the problem, but this is only because it typically reduces the number of types in one of those three categories to fewer than 40--thus Condition #2 above doesn't exist.  If you choose to purge, you really only need to purge a family category (windows, doors, or curtain panels) that has more than 40 types in the project browser.  Alternatively, you can delete some types (temporarily) that you know you won't be using in your current project, to get the number below 40.

If you get locked up, you can free yourself by clicking on the Wall tool and using the type selector drop-down once (no need to actually select anything).  This resets the type selector and restores the frozen functionality (such as the Esc key, etc).

The best way to avoid this problem, until the upcoming fix is in place for Revit 2023, is to avoid using the type selector for windows, doors, or curtain panels.  Instead, select one of the families and click the Edit Type button (or right-click on the type in the project browser and choose Type Properties... in the contextual menu).  Then select/change types via the dialog's Type drop-down.

We apologize for creating such a monumental pain in the butt.  We know how to fix it and will be doing so as quickly as possible.

Thanks,
Trey

I agreed with you!! The workaround is not ideal. With our regular template files, we're having the same problem. The purge fix isn't really useful because we require the families in the template.

Autodesk has responded that it is a known issue and the development team is working on it.  It works fine as long as I stay away from doors and windows.  I hope they find a resolution soon.  It has slowed me down.

Hi beckyNMNUU

We're sorry that this is slowing you down!  This issue will be fixed ASAP.

As I mentioned above, there's really no need to do a purge.  Until this is fixed, either use the Edit Type button to pick/change types or TEMPORARILY remove a few of your less-used window and door family types to get the total number of types in each category to fewer than 40.  In this state, you won't experience the bad behavior.

Once this is fixed, you can add the deleted window and/or door types back in, if desired.

Thanks,
Trey

Has this issue been fixed yet?

It appears it was noted quite some time ago

Its not fair on the consumers to have to put up with this issue for this long.

They just released a Hotfix to fix this issue.

This problem is persisting. I have installed the hotfix Revit_2023_0_1, assuming this would fix the problem and it hasn't. The problem only just occurred for me today and the purge unused workaround works, so it seems that you haven't fixed the problem. Holy ****, this is bad. Fix urgently.
