Problems "liniar dimensions"

 Quote : "  Linear dimensions are placed between selected points. The dimensions are aligned to the horizontal or vertical axis of the view. The selected points are endpoints of elements or the intersection of references (for example, the join of 2 walls)."

Question: Why does the command "Linear Dimensions" not work when you press the icon?

In architecture does not see the insertion points (perpendicular, intersection, final, etc.), to the drawing of a quota between the false ceiling and the concrete slab. Please solve this problem.
