Problem applying material to an element.

After duplicating,I was trying to change material,but the the small box beside "by category"isn't clicking at all and I have uninstalled and installed review back again and its still not clicking .What could be the problem?

if not, maybe the curvature of the earth has some bearing on it. Or some bad liqueur. It happens.
