Preventing users from importing new linetypes when importing views/families

Hello,

I am trying to find a way to prevent new linetypes from being imported into the central model accidentally when people import new families/ drafting views. Is there anyway to do this, or even convert the linetypes to the existing linetypes in the model.

I do not think there is a way. You would have to look at/correct the imported objects.

This is the behavior you'd want to exist. When you add something to a host eg import or load item, you'd want the item to bring all the information with it. If it didn't we'd be even more upset.

The alternative would be to map the offending items (linestyles for example) so they took on the properties with in the host. This currently is not possible with out addins  or scripts. As the import could contain any styles and elements you wouldn't want it would be difficult to hard code this.

I would suggest raising an Idea asking the imports can check if the styles exist and to ask if the new style are wanted, would be nice if the feature could map to existing to reduce all those annoying imported one! 🙂

Hi

Couple of options to prevent that issue

1. Standardize the line types used for Drafting Views.

2. Another option is to keep all drafting views in one Revit file and never import in the Main project.

In the main project, keep a dummy Sheet, but the print that sheet from " Drafting Views " Revit file.

3. The third option is to create " Drafting views" details in floor plans of " Drafting View Revit File " and rather than importing view, use LINK Revit file, and use " By linked view" to see the details.

using this link Revit, it will prevent importing any line types and restricting messing up the main project.

4. Linking goes for CAD links as well.. never import the CAD.. cause exploding it, will import all the line types.
