Post base offset

Newbie here...

I'm having difficulty placing the bottom (or base) of my guard rail posts where they need to be in my models. Currently, I need to be able to show the posts mounted to the side of some platforms. As it stands, I am unable to model it this way (see screen shot).

Whenever I specify a base offset, you can see the post just moves down in elevation. Help? Ha!

Probably be easier to show you, than to tell you. Want to post a simple RVT file with the railing type placed in it? If not, post screenshots of your Rail and Baluster properties so we can reference them.

That doesn't do anything for me.

I'm waiting on a screen cast to process.

How about Start Post and End Post base offset?

This is what I get by changing those perimeters.

Maybe it's time to share your railing model.

No problem but where would it be saved? I'm not familiar with that part of Revit, yet. LOL!

Have you thought about just using a base offset on placement?

Just copy paste a railing to a new file, save, and attach.

The post family you used was modeled incorrectly.  It does not flex when the height changes.  I replaced it with the stock Round baluster of the same size and the railing now works properly.

Better than offsetting. Top rail remains to code.

Thank you so much!

I find it interesting how the family I used to create the rail didn't flex I it should. Again, being a newbie, I just thought if I started with what came with the software package I would be fine. Lesson learned. Thanks again!

Edit the Baluster - Round or Baluster - Square family and see how they are built.   There are voids constrained to the two sloped reference planes to chop the overly tall baluster to the correct height when placed in railing.

ToanDN,

Do you know why the middle post or baluster will not extend down like the other two? This is the rail model you mixed for me earlier this month.
