PLOTTING PROBLEM REVIT 2017

Hi

I have a constant plotting problem where 1 of the office PC plots directly from revit 2017 to plotter with no problems.

There are another 3 PC all loaded with Revit 2017 which do not plot at all, the only work arround that somtimes works is to create a PDF and then plot from a PDF reader. The Pc that does work plots directly to the plotters IP Address. Have checked the setting and all the plotter seetings are identical.

This problem has been driving me nuts since updating to 2016, always an intermittent on the three PC.

The Plotter is a HP Designjet 4520 HPGL2.

Have tried removed and reinstalling Revit 2017 no change.

Removed and reinstalled Plotter and updated drivers, no change.

Have created a network plotter on the office server, no change.

Have updated the 3 pc to windows 10 from windows 7 64 bit, no change.

When large sized PDF's are created from the other machines in the office, only the 1 PC is able to plot them.

Any other suggestions I can try?

Regards

Graham

I just spent $3500 in hardware prior to installing 2017. custom built to operate both revit and autocad at the same time on split screens! its not the graphics cards! I can pull up revit 2016 and autocad 2016 at the same time, AND print just fine from either. At some point doesn't autodesk have to fix the problem? or refund the money spent for a program that doesn't work?

So just a bit more information

Autodesk was adamant that the problem with plotting at my office related to the display cards installed.

So to check we bought a new Display card installed it in one of the office machines that does not plot.

AND GUESS WHAT !!!!!!!!!!!!

Revit 2017 still does not plot

WHAT NOW

TIRED OF THIS PROBLEM AND CONTINUED SILENCE FROM AUTODESK

I can't believe they would even bring that up as a problem. If everything was working fine with 2016, then why would it all of a sudden not plot in 2017? I'm fairly certain most of us use machines that well exceed minimum requirements b/c let's face it: If you use a computer that only meets min. requirements to run this software it runs like a sloth crawling through peanut butter. So if 2016 was running fine, plotting fine, and then 2017 with the exact same setup was running fine, but not plotting fine . . .that doesn't seem the least bit likely to me to be related to a graphics card. This whole thing is stupid.

I gave up b/c I didn't have time to mess with Autodesk on it. (Autodesk peeps, I know you're reading this . . .what does that say to you????) Instead I found a workaround that has been working quite well, even if it's a bit more money out of my pocket each month. I subscribed to Adobe Acrobat DC. I used to be able to use Cute PDF to print to PDF, then plot from there. Now for some reason when I try to do that I can NOT get it to plot to scale. Not good. However, with the Adobe I can get everything plotted exactly as it should be. I've actually found it's easier to plot from there. As long as everything is just right when I print to PDF, then if I need to print extra sets, it's far faster to just print from that PDF than to print from Revit. $15 or $16 each month . . .not the end of the world, however each bit adds up when you're a one woman show and try to keep overhead to a minimum. Not pleased about the whole situation, but glad I found a workaround. Sharing in case it helps anyone else.

I'd suggest dropping a machine back down to Windows 7 and testing to see if printing works fine.

Another reason most companies are still running Windows 7 vs 10...  Revit 2017 is working just fine on my computer at work...and I can print to the copier or plotters.

BTW....if you want to rant and rave about this....tag the support folk that replied previously so they get an e-mail you replied.  If they still work for Autodesk they may return.

Also...do you have a support ticket with Autodesk?  I'd keep making comments on the support ticket on progress on your issue.

Oh, do you have print monitoring software?  Try disabling that and see if it works,  That was a headache at a company I worked for...it worked for Autocad but Revit didn't like it....and trying a different one it worked vice versa.

Well, I actually seem to have found a silver lining here. While I absolutely still feel that this shouldn't be an issue, the workaround I figured out is really working well. So well that I like it better than printing from Revit.

What I had to do was purchase a subscription to Adobe Acrobat DC. I print to PDF. Then print from the PDF. I was using Cute PDF before, but found I had issues with it printing to scale and that's not acceptable. The Adobe works beautifully. The upsides to doing this are two-fold: First, it's faster when I need to reprint anything. It's so much faster to just pull up the PDF and print that or just what sheets I need than to open Revit and verify all my plotting settings are still correct. And if I happened to go in and change anything after, I have that set of prints on the PDF that is still identical to the original. The other thing that has helped me is that I don't have to redo settings every time I print for the first time on a project. Since I'm printing to somewhere it's already printed, even if it's a new project file, the settings stay there. So it saves time on two counts.

So while I DO think it should work and we shouldn't have to jump through hoops, I like this way better, so I'll just keep using it either way.

Yeah, we are using DC too...  I like printing to PDF so I can rearrange General sheets that Revit prints last (Since A is before G) and when printing multiple sets, moving sheets around is a PITA...

So Updated to  Revit 2018 and guess what still not plotting.

What is happening

Autodesk sent out a tech to load Revit 2015 on one of the office computers.

And guess what Revit 2015 can plot directly to my plotter with no problem.

So what has Autodesk changed to cause 2016 2017 and now 2018 to no longer plot directly to the plotter. The whole office has to create PDF to plot.

Tired of talking with no answers and Autodesk not making any progress

My office has 7 Autodesk packages

(5 x Design Suite Premium

1 x AutoCAD

1x AEC collection ) with subscription fully paid up.

This is not good enough.

this is so what i did not want to hear. i have paid for 2 upgrades, yet still use 2016 because it is the only one that plots. i was hoping 2018 would solve the plotting problem. it sounds like autodesk continues to sell a product that doesn't work. This would not be tolerated in most industries, yet here we continue to pay subscription fees for a product that doesn't work. The sad part is they know we have to use them, and we know we have to use them, regardless of whether it works or not. this is really disheartening to hear that 2018 still doesn't plot. what can we do?

Hi, I also had this problem for a while, running windows 7, and Designjet 500 . Revit 2016 plots fine but 2017 not at all, sometimes preview would work sometimes not, actual plot never. Solution that worked for me was going to options, User interface, visual experience , uncheck use hardware acceleration if available.. I still have hardware acceleration on in the graphics tab..

Thank you for that suggestion. As it is, I actually like my workaround better than printing directly from Revit. I print to PDF then have it just sitting there. When I need to print extra sets, it's so much faster to open the PDF and print from there than from Revit. However, the only good PDF printer I found is Adobe Acrobat DC which costs me $15 a month. I hate having extra cash going out each month, but for me it's working so I'll keep it. However, I REALLY think this shouldn't be an issue that needs a workaround in the first place. I need to download 2018, but I'll try your thing and see if it works for me!
