Placing Face Based Lighting into Linked Revit Ceiling

I am having issues placing a face based light family into a revit linked ceiling. I was able to do it just fine on 1 floor - then am not able to on the proceeding floor. the Floor I was able to do it on (SC1) has a view range as Follows: 

Top: Level above (Cellar)

Cut Plane: offset 6'6"

View Depth Level: Level above (Cellar) 0' offset

the level i cannot place the fixtures has the same settings but 1 floor up and for some reason I cannot place the face-based fixtures. Any help is appreciated!

can you place it in a 3D view?

are you seeing this on the contextual tab? And are you selecting Place on Face?

Yes - i am selecting "place on face". I will check to see if i can place in a 3d View

could it be something to do with my underlay settings? as i am using autocad to underlay the lighting postions. On the floor I was able to do it no problem, My underlay settings were Base Sub-Cellar 1; Top: Cellar; Orientation: look up.

on the floor there is the issue the settings are the same but wont let me place the fixtures in the Look up setting, only look down. But when I place in the look down setting, it doesnt place on the drop ceiling.

Instead of guessing, just post your file and we'll figure it out in no time.

Make sure the view is Hidden, not Wireframe. And try to TAB on a linked ceiling see if there is actually a ceiling.

so the wireframe change helped me to place on face - but when i export to Navisworks- it looks like they are hosting to the floor above slab and not the drop ceiling

Cut a section and see where the drop ceiling is then make sure your view range cut plane is not above it.

arch ceiling in the linked model is at 9'6 1/4" +/- depending on the room. below are my view range settings.

cellar is at -13'10" and 1st Fl TOS is -1"

unsure of how I would place a lighting in a linked arch model. how would I see a 3d View of just the cellar Ceiling?

i can place this way but it is difficult to get to the right ceiling height and see the linked cads to act as a background. 

I am just confused as to why everything worked perfectly on SC1 but not on the cellar?

After you place it on the ceiling in 3D, go to the Ceiling Plan View and adjust its position.  

If you go to the Ceiling Plan View and don't see it it the View, then the problem lies elsewhere.  Maybe View Range, maybe Visibility Settings, maybe something else.  Placing it in 3D is more a troublshooting step.  You should be able to place it in the Ceiling Plan View.

when i placed in 3d, i was able to see in the ceiling view. I can place when my underlay settings are look down, but it doesnt attach to the ceiling and upsidedown, why would it not let me place with my underlay settings looking up like i did for SC1?

Huh? You've completely lost me.  Can you post a picture or something to help me visualize what you just described?
