Placing a family by Shared coordinates

Hello

I need to place a family into a project.  It has the coordinates within it, but that doesn't help if I need to actually click somewhere to place it.  How can I place this family when I don't have anything to click on to place it?  There is also nothing legitimate to align to.  The model is mostly links and I cannot align to them.

Use shared coordinates. It references the project's base point, not ref. planes. Should drop right into place if set up correctly.

How does one "Use shared coordinates" to place a family file in a normal Revit file?

I am not aware of Shared Coordinates in Families (RFA).  What sort of family is it?  Can you share it?

You don't. Sorry, I didn't notice "Family". You can take back your Kudo, if you like. HA! 

There is a way to do it, but it's not a conventional approach. Not sure you really want to hear about it.

I am receiving pieces of a Rhino Model that have good shared coordinates.  I cannot put them directly into a in-place family because these pieces make the model too slow for a central file that will slow things down for everyone.  So I need to be able to bring it in at the last minute.  It will need edited as the project progresses.  So it must remain separate.

I made a separate Revit Model that I have linked in.  That model hasn't been exporting properly to the various formats that I need to be exporting to.  So I am trying it as a large family.  I hope that things will work more smoothly.  Maybe not but I need to give it a try. 

Can It be place from the Families area of the project browser, once it is in the project?
