Place a family in specific coordinates

Hello all,

Do you know any way to place a family in specific coordinates(X,Y,Z) in a project using Revit ?

Thank you in advance!

You can't.  But with Dynamo this is fairly straight forward.

you can do it either :

  • by using Revit:
    • from VGO >Model Categories > Site , check the Project Base Point
    • once activated in your drawing Unclip it so to be able to move it freely
    • change the N/S (Y) and E/W (X) and Elevation (Z) of the PBP icon so to move it to the desired coordinates
    • load the Family that you want to place and use Align tool to match the PBP position
    • now , if you want it, you can move back the PBP to the original position and Clip it ...
  • by using Dynamo

Or I guess you could also add dimensions with global parameter labels for x-y coordinates on some level to some zero point. Or you could even build offset coördinates into your family.

This is what I am trying to do, to create inside the family the X and Y distance from the 0.0 point of the family. But when I place the family in the project the 0.0 of the family not correspond to the PBP  of the project.

Thank you.

You should be able to just align/lock a family to any point/refplane/grid...

I make the calculation in Revit (Coordinates family - Coordinates project). After I import the family in the project and manually I put the cross (0.0) from the family to the PBP.

Sometimes I have negative values in the calculation results. Is there any way the direction of the coordinates in the family to change directly?

Thank you in advance!

You could use a nested work-plane based generic model family with some model lines (for coordination purposes, with visibility parameter) and use the offset constraint both for positive/negative values, or controlled by the main families parameters.

..and another way , this time , by using Dynamo:

Hello,

I am trying to do it. How is it possible to add also the degree factor? The PBP has an angle and also the families have an azimuth.

Thank you.
