Phases not displaying properly with Show Complete filter

I'm having trouble getting phases in a linked model to show the way that I would expect them to.

View phase settings are:

Phase filter settings are the default:

Phase graphic overrides are:

 Phase mapping is:

But view displays as:

I can't figure out why, with the Show Complete filter, the existing walls show as overridden to halftone when they should be "By Category".

Is the link set to by host, custom, or by linked view?

1. Create a Linked view in the Link model.
2. In the model where you have your link, Go to Visibilty Graphics and goto Revit Link

3. See the below image

Under the dropdown choose the Linked View.
Your phases will appear.

Let know how it goes

You might have a Mapping issue - From 2 in the Link to 3 Phases in the host

  • Open the Link >>> Add a Phase FINAL
  • Then in Host model remap Final to Final

Thanks but I’ve never had to do that in any other previous projects to get phases to display properly. The problem with using linked views is that I would need to set up dozens of views in the link and then individually assign them to each corresponding view in my own model since I presume that can’t be done by a template.

I did wonder about that - I’ll give it a go but I assumed from the Show Complete phase filter that anything which hasn’t been demolished should display “by category”.

You can setup view templates (which is an one time job)and assign linked views to the respective levels.
We use this hassle free method (rather than breaking our head where did the elements disappear). This approach saves a lot of time.
If something is wrong - you know the place to check(Linked views in the link file).
Cheers

Thanks, but I'm still convinced that I shouldn't need to do that.

To make sure that I wasn't going crazy I made a test link and test host and the phase filters work absolutely fine without having to use linked views (as I've been doing for several years now):-

I've come to the conclusion that there's something (not sure what) wierd about the phasing in the linked model.

One thing that confused me @RDAOU was why I had mapped the phases the way that they were (did that a while back and couldn't remember) but it turns out that the Architect has now removed/merged their Final phase into their New Constructon phase and Revit must have automatically changed my phase mapping to suit - I've now merged my Final phase into New Construction so that I have direct compatibility but it hasn't solved the problem.

Thanks for the responses though.

You didn't need to merge yours you could have added a blank on in the link ... nonetheless, good luck on having it solved

Better to Sign off... less confusion

Change the link to Custom, set the link phase filter to Show Complete instead of By Host (even though they appear the same) and see if it helps.

Tried that and also tried various other phase settings but with no joy.

The only thing which worked was "None" but then the Demo items reappear.

Definitely something fishy about the setup in the linked file.

I think I'll give up for now, get on with my work and then come back to it later when I'm ready to publish.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

It turns out that the Architect has changed the phase filter settings in their model and caused the Show Complete filter to not show complete - it basically works the same as the Show All filter except that Temporary isn't seen and its the same as another Filter which they've called Show Proposed:

I changed the settings in their model and now phasing works fine in my own model without having to use linked views (which weren't working anyway because they were also using the "broken" phase filter in the link).

Thanks to everyone who contributed.

Played about with this a bit more and it seems that both the host and the link files must contain a Phase Filter of the same name and settings.

I'd never had the problem before because my project and the linked files were always using the default out of the box settings.

So if custom phase filter settings are needed in a project then I would suggest that the default filters should be left per their OOTB settings and new additional filters should be created rather than amending the default filters.

Hope this is of assistance to others in the future.
