I wrote out a pat file and I cannot figure out why it is so messed up. The vertical lines are exactly as I wrote them, but the horizontal lines are moving diagonally across the hatch at 69.44 degrees! If anyone can give a suggestion it would be much appreciated.

Your shift value of "90" doesn't make sense in this case. Change that 4th value in the last two lines to "0" and its probably what you want? Otherwise post a dimensioned image of what you are looking for and I can help better.
Pattycake color codes lines to help de-bug for cases like this. Click this link below and change those values to zero to see how it lines up nicer.
