Page Numbering

Good morning dear Revit Mentors.

Besides sheet number like A.1, A.2, etc., I would like to insert a parametric page counter on the bottom of my sheets like page 1 of 30, page 2 of 30, and soon on…

The thing is that I am currently working in one project with 6 different building permits, I do not want to work on 6 different files and I created this Sheet Numbering System in order to avoid duplicates:

SHE_0.00

SHE_0.1A, and so on… I’ve got 10 pages for this building (Shed), so I want to get page 1 of 10, page 2 of 10, not page 1 of the total number of pages for the whole file.

BED_0.00,

BED__0.1A, and so on… I’ve got 30 pages for this building (Master Bedroom), so I want to get page 1 of 30, page 2 of 30, not page 1 of the total number of pages for the whole file.

The same for the rest of buildings:

CAR1_0.00

CAR1_0.1A (Carport 1, 7 pages)

POO_0.00

POO_0.1A (Pool, 20 pages)

HOM_0.00

HOM_0.1A (Mobile Home, 25 pages)

CAR2_0.00

CAR2_0.1A (Carport 2, 7 pages)…

Any suggestions please?

Probably this is a challenging question but I know you guys are kinda genius to resolve this.

Thank you and have a nice day.

if you think you can help me to complete my AXP, please let me know, I will really appreciate it. Thank you & Stay Wealthy, Happy, Healthy and Safe 🙂

If you want to subtotal automated: create a sheet index schedule for the
sheet group you want to total, sort and format it to only show the total,
i.e. 30, then place it on a sheet, copy and paste aligned to all other
sheets of that group.

If you want to simply type in the subtotal, then add a shared parameter
label to the title block family, add the same shared parameter to the
project, assign to sheets category, then you can select sheets and type in
the subtotal from the properties.

@ToanDN

Thank you for your response.

This is how I've got my cover sheets for each building:

do I need to copy and paste my sheet schedule to all pages of the respective building?

Could you please explain step by step how to create the shared parameter? I know how to create shared parameters but at this point I don't know what type of SP I need to create and how to associate it to the specific file/group. Please advise further. Thank you.

Yes.  You need to copy paste the Total Number schedule to all sheets of the respective building.

Could you please explain step by step how to create the shared parameter? I know how to create shared parameters but at this point I don't know what type of SP I need to create and how to associate it to the specific file/group. Please advise further. Thank you.

Please note that the two approaches are radically different.  You only do one or another, not both.

Last but not least, if you comprise sheets from multiple sources (consultants, vendors, etc...) to create a PDF then you better add page number in the PDF as a footer.

I do not have enough space on my sheets to copy and paste sheet schedule on every single page. is there another way to do it?

What do you mean?  The sheet schedule is format to show just the total count.

Anyhow, I suggest you look into adding footer in PDF.  It is painless anyone can do it.

You can use dynamo to count and number pages for you

Alternatively if the pdf printer you are using supports it, just print them as sets into 1 pdf and add page numbering/captions in the footer

You cannot do much more than that unless you want to sit there and number the pages by manually inputting the values

you seem to be a decent hard working guy 🙂 so here is simple Dynamo graph you can use to add those footer. You can run it using Dynamo Player...hope that helps

You need the following:

  1. Edit the title block and add a Label. In that label u need 2x Shared Text Parameters
    • Page
    • Pages
  2. Load the title block into the project
  3. In the project Add the above 2x Shared Parameters (Page and Pages) as Project Instance Parameters: Category Sheets
  4. Download the attached DYN and Paste it in the Current Dynamo Player folder
  5. Refresh and Open the Graph in the player
  6. Edit the Inputs (Type the Prefix u used in the numbering of each sheet set - example: BED_P or CAR...)
  7. Run the graph and the result is as per GIF below (Adds a footer Sheet XX of YY to the set of sheets whose number starts with say BED_P)

PS: I don't know your numbering system so I set it up to use keyword from the Sheet number. You have to run it for each Set (ie: change the keyword in the player and run again) ...

As English is not your first language, I would recommend you avoid abbreviating "POOL" as "POO" in your sheet numbers. "POO" is a child's contraction for "POOP" which is another word for defecation. 😉
