Opening up and working on an imported Revit project

I have been sent a Revit project of a proposed extension by email (which I wish to develop further - if possible) I pressed the attached Revit attachment expecting to see the floorplans, elevations etc but not much happened.

I then saved the link to a new file. From there I opened up a new architectural Template project in Revit, opened Insert Tab, clicked Link CAD box from there a message came up saying something about the project being more than 20 miles away and no sign of any plans. However when I clicked on the 3D view the plans were there but I couldn’t get them to expand any further.

I am a newbie so a little lost, any advise will be much appreciated. The imported project is Revit 2021 and I am working in Revit 2021.

I believe you are asking how to link a Revit model. If you received a model and want to see its modeled elements (i.e. architecture elements) you will need to link the Revit model into your current model. I have attached the Autodesk how-to. I hope this helps.
