Objects on Existing Phase

Is there are setting that will allow all newly created objects to come in as "Existing" for "Phase Created"? Right now every model object I create defaults to "New Construction", and "Phase Created" is not displayed in Instance Properties until the object has been created.

Thanks for your help,
Scott

Create a view that is set to the existing phase. Anyhitng created/placed
while in that view will be created as "existing". Views are not only for
documentation. They can be used as tools and ways to interact with the
model.

Thanks for your help Jeff. I appreciate your quick response. I was sent a link to a good discussion on phasing - I've got a bit of studying up to do.

Take Care,
Scott

If you want another link to chew on one of our support guys did a nice blog
entry on phasing you might want to look at.

Interestingly - that was the exact link I was looking at.

Good to know I'm getting good information.

To elaborate on Jeff's response...when working with existing
buildings, we typically setup 3 views for each plan:

Demolition Plan
* Phase Filter: Show Previous + Demo
* Phase: New Construction

New Floor Plan - Draw all new construction items here.
* Phase Filter: Show Previous + New
* Phase: New Construction

Existing Floor Plan - Draw all existing construction items here.
* Phase Filter: Show Previous + New
* Phase: Existing

The Demo and New Floor plans get plotted as part of our construction
documents, but we work in the New and Existing plans.

Since you've been through it before, how about some insight to rooms? Do you create Rooms in your Existing Plans (so the Phase Created is set to Existing) and then just choose to Hide the Not Placed rooms in your schedule (or apply a filter to exclude them from the schedule)? If so, do you then create New Construction Rooms over top of them if no walls were demolished in that area?

If my trial and error efforts are correct, an Existing Room only shows up in views that have the phase set to Existing, whereas walls (and other objects) created in the Existing Phase can show up in a view set to New Construction Phase and (i.e.) Show Previous + New Phase Filter.

Are there other objects that act in this manner similar to Rooms?

Sorry to pester with all the questions - but this forum continues to be a great resource as I explore additional features of Revit.
Thanks,
Scott

I've started looking through the help topics in Revit. I've found the answers to most of my questions already. I'll poke around there before I ask for more help that is right in front of me.

Thanks,
Scott

Room are phase specific. Typically we just place Rooms in the New
Floor Plan.

This did not help. Still shows up as new construction. Any ideas why?
