New level creation makes structural level

I notice that when I create a new level via the create similar command, Revit automatically creates a new structural plan by default, even when the structural box is unchecked. Is there a way to make my new level create a floor plan view instead of a structural view?

I know that I can create a new floor plan from my newly created level by going to plan views>floor plan>uncheck "do not duplicate existing views">select desired level.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks,

Ryan

Wow. That's wierd. I get the same behavior. And it's messed up. The new plan view shows up under Structural plans in the Project Browser, yet it's View Discipline is set to Architectural. And how it comes up with the name for the new Level and the new View is beyond me.

I've never made a new level using the Create Similar tool before. I've always just copied an existing Level up or down, and then used the Plan View tool to make a new View for it.

Thanks for the feedback. Always reassuring to know that i'm not just missing something but that it is indeed a software issue. That's an easy enough workaround as well so I appreciate it.

Thanks

The proper way to create a new level with floor plan is with the create Level tool. (Architecture > Datum > Level)

Though, I think your problem could also be attributed to your template. I tried your method, and for me  it works as expected: I get a regular floor plan, with logical naming.

If I do that here I get a a plan view for each view type - structural, floor and ceiling which is what I would expect.  if I create a new level just using the level tool in elevation (rather than create similar) I get exactly the same thing.  Discipline is always set to architectural if I do this.

If I create a structural plan for Level 0 or Level 1 then its discipline is set to coordination by default.

Where would I find the setting that controls that? I have looked thinking that might be the cause but couldn't find anything?

Thanks for the help

When you go to create a new level, there's a button "Plan view types"

PlanViewTypes.PNG

Next you can select on or more type that you want to create along with the level. Revit will remember the selection the next time you create a level.

Thank you!  This was the part I was overlooking and resolved the issue.
