Multiline Text Shared Parameter Combining Other Family Type Parameters

Hey Everyone,

I'm making wall/floor/roof tags that can act like Wall Assemblies boxes, so that if the assembly ever changes the tags at least graphically can update automatically (see attached). 

For some reason we aren't able to collect actual material data (names, sizes, etc.) from wall families - or at least I haven't been able to find a way. The only way I can see to make a material list show up in the tag is to add a multiline text shared parameter to both the family and project, then manually type out each material as you see fit. The tag works fine when you edit the type properties of the family, but when you go to edit the multiline text parameter from the view the parameter adds the text data from other family type parameter - ie. Fire Rating, Sound Transmission, Type Mark, etc. (see attached)

Has anyone come across something like this or have any idea what's causing it? My only solution right now is to pin the tag (make it uneditable in the view) and edit from the family editor. And also hope that anyone else coming across it doesn't unpin and edit from view.

Are you saying that you want a single tag to report all the Materials in the Wall Assembly?

Why not create parts from the compound-layered/material wall and material tag each layer? 

BTW: is that a Legend?  Instead of Legend View, create a Legend Phase (before Construction Phases begin) and then annotate Section View of Wall Parts in that Phase.  Demo Walls/Parts in that Phase before Construction Phase begin so they won't be counted in actual Project totals.

Can you upload the sample tag so we can see how the tag is created? I don't think you can report assembly layer material through tags. You can only report the assembly layer material through schedule.

I could just material tag with out creating parts anyway though, right? Also, when you create parts it messes with your cut line styles. I like having my core layer a bit more bold.

I wish we were able to access materials parameters via wall tags - would make assemblies way more streamlined in my opinion.

I have noticed this today. When selecting the tagged infromation on the view, it shows all multi-line text parameter values in the box, but like you said, when you edit type, it only shows the text for that parameter. Strange!

As you can see. These are separate shared parameters but are in the same tag. The same tag is being used for ease of placement on the wall legend. Once you click on one of the values in the view, the edit multiline text appears with all the information.

Hello, any updates in solving this problem? 

i have created a tag for wall drawing with different parameters. when entering value in one multiline textparameter all parameters shows upp and gets written in that one parameter.

you should write this as a bug , i think this fault come from text collecting if you open the text editor,it collect all the text of tag.a simple codering.
