Does any one know how to modify these walls to show the 1' overhang without having to go through the wall opening command? doesn't work all the time.  thanks in advance

Attach the Top of the wall to that roof.

If it is a 1' overhang, shouldn't the roof go around the wall?  Maybe I am missing something in your picture perhaps?

Why would you need the wall opening command for overhangs?

If the overhang is a different roof then you need to select it for the wall to attach to as well.

After attaching the walls to the roof, you will need to edit the roof footprint to create the overhang.

please note the picture, my lower roof extends past the upper roof  by 1'6" to accommodate the gable wall and allows a 1' over hang on the upper roof. maybe just draw a seperate roof for the overhang? sounds excessive but i guess it will solve the issue Thanks for all the feedback keep it comming!
