Modeling advice requested

We will be scanning an old masonry bld for an as-built.

Given a point cloud data set and a very ornate front bld facade with stonework protruding and recessing all over the front building face, how would one model this in Revit to get a front elevation plan and long sections to show the detail on the front facade?

I am only looking for basic workflow procedures. I do not need detailed Revit command instruction.

Thanks in advance,

depending on how detailed the walls are, you will need to use a combination of tools such as walls, wall sweeps, wall reveals, wall openings, face based generic models, etc.

If you can give me a screenshot image of what you are working with, I can give you better instructions/workflow processes.

Thanks for the response Dzan! Please see the attached image. I understand I will use a number of the tools.

Will wall sweeps curve?

Would you make a custom window family for each of the styles shown in the attachement?

Would you include all of the masonry window detail/moulding in the custom families?

Would you consider doing this in AutoCAD?

see answers to your questions below:

Will wall sweeps curve?...yes...by default, wall sweeps are vertical and horizontal...however, you can use a model line (curved) and apply a sweep/reveal to it via in-place modeling (solid/void)

Would you make a custom window family for each of the styles shown in the attachement?...yes...create a custom window for each type to be used throughout the model.

Would you include all of the masonry window detail/moulding in the custom families?...depending on how complex it can get, you might want to treat those as separate sweeps on the building and not part of the window design.

Would you consider doing this in AutoCAD?...absolutely.  Mesh modeling in AutoCAD is better than Revit...create it and use the 3D AutoCAD blocks as hybrid Revit families
