Model in Place Component (void)

I need to model a recess that cuts into a slab and RC beam. I have created my recess by going to Architecture tab > component > model in-place > floors > void forms. This works fine for the slab but when i come to cut the same recess into the beam it will not cut.

I have tried doing he same thing using 'structural farming' instead of floors to see if this will work for the beam but it is not cutting. any ideas please? thanks!
