Model Group - Change Reference Level

Dear All,

Im in the family editor.

Is there a way to redefine the reference level/reference plane for model group? I mean to change it from horizontal plane to vertical plane?

Depends. What is the hosting of the elements within the group? Additionally, why do you ask? Are you trying to move the group and erroring out (e.g. Revit cannot move grouped elements together).  The remedy for this, is to turn the Group into a Link and move the Link.

Not answering you question but it looks like it should a detail component nested in the door family and placed on the Plan for Jambs and on the Section for Head.  It is what you want?

Thanks guys,

It seems like Model Groups only work with horizontal Reference Levels.

The solution here, would be to skip totally Model Groups, and insert the detail linework into Detal Item Family, and then insert the whole family as nested one to the door family.

That's not an accurate statement.  Maybe I am misunderstanding you. Are you talking about Model Group or Detail Group? Big difference in behaviors.

In this case it is a Model Group. When creating a Detail Group(or Detail Component) in Family Editor (Door Template), Revit automatically assignes Group that consists only of symbolic lines into Model Group category (at least this is my case).

Am I correct in this sense?

Model elements group together into Model Groups. Detail elements group together in Detail Groups. Revit makes the distinction automatically and creates two different Groups in your Project Browser.  So, Yes, you are correct.  

...Did you detach the Detail from the Model Group? I mean, do you have Detail Group listed in Project Browser? If not, detach it from the Model Group. You should then be able to place that Detail Group in any planar View.  Is this what you are talking about?

Select the Group, then go to an Elevation view and move the blue dot to the required Level.

Then go to Properties and set the Reference Level and set the Origin Level Offset to 0.
